If you like your prawn fritters in princely portions, Cucur Udang Gendut should float your boat. Crackly shell-on crustaceans in pleasantly chewy batter, paired with a subtly spicy peanut sauce and a sweet chilli sauce that both pair perfectly with the classic cucur. Generous servings for RM6.50.
Sambal Bilis Co sells precisely what it says, offering only one product but doing it very well. This isn't your run-of-the-mill sambal kering ikan bilis though, not the chewy and turning-stale anchovies that might come in a mediocre packet of nasi lemak. This ikan bilis is crispy enough to belong in a bag of chips, crackly and crunchy in every bite.
While it's delicious as a side dish, it could double as a snack even on its own, with a fieriness that's slightly on the spicier side of sambal.
Sambal Bilis Co obviously makes its sambal fresh and delivers daily - one jar is RM8, three are RM22, and five are RM36, storable for up to three months.
