DuaMeja is downtown KL's surprising new destination for Japanese sumptuousness with Malaysian sensibilities, by a local chef-founder who formerly sharpened his skills at Japas Kuala Lumpur.
Start with Shima Aji (just RM12), smooth and succulent in citrus ponzu, scented with seven Southeast Asian herbs, spanning daun cekur to kemangi to limau purut, served with DuaMeja's own-pickled jambu air, for a uniquely thoughtful take on torched sashimi.
The Salmon Tataki is also worthwhile, fired up with the mild kick of burnt chilli salsa (RM19.50). For lunch, a lovely range of donburi is available, spanning beef or chicken to saba shioyaki (RM16.50-RM27), plentifully proportioned with protein, pickles and plump eggs.
