Fans of hybrid cuisines might enjoy exploring Moka, a new restaurant that brings together Japanese and Italian ingredients, led by a Kumamoto-born chef and his Yokohama-origin wife.
Dinner set menus are the way to sample the chef's specialities - starter possibilities include truffle fried gnocchi, baccala-style cod fish crostini, tsukudani oysters, chawanmushi with uni, scallops and caviar, and seasonal sashimi sourced from Tokyo's Tosoyu Market.
Pastas, rice and main courses are where the real excitement rests - risotto with sukiyaki-sliced Japanese A5 wagyu beef and sautéed foie gras; spaghetti tossed with ikura and bottarga; roast Cherry Valley duck breast; and Miyazaki beef steak; ending with Moka's own-made tiramisu.
