Maple Food Market: Great Eastern Mall's Latest Triumph

By Aiman Azri

We had heaps of fun at Great Eastern Mall's latest edition of the long-running, much-beloved Maple Food Market, sampling the spectacular efforts of artisanal food purveyors who take tremendous pride and passion in their work. And based on the cheerful response of the crowd throughout November 1-4, the hearty comfort food, lip-smacking desserts and wholesome beverages here were thoroughly worth the visit!

Big Cookie Theory's Khalisah, pictured here with her brownie pie, had a stellar four days, refilling her repertoire of special cakes and brownies regularly.  "This is our first time, but the crowd has been great. Every day has been good to me."

Estelle from Two Pineapples was pleased that customers were not only curious about her products, but about her personally. "They're willing to try and chat with you. It's a very happy atmosphere at Maple Food Market, catching up with your customers and asking how they are." The cute Two Pineapples logo is based on Estelle and her sister; she's the big pineapple.

Ina Meliesa of Mel's Kitchen, a regular at Maple Food Market, has high praise for the market's visitors. "The crowd here, they know what to eat, they know quality food."

The market was enlivened not only by food but entertainment too. The young Totoro Trio, banding together exclusively for the market, supplied jazzy musical numbers, while the PENSO Percussion Ensemble, which regularly plays at Istana Budaya, offered creative pop covers.

A magician and a clown delighted children and adults alike, while a special communal mural painting booth with new drawings every day brought colour and cool vibes to the market.

We can't wait to see what's next for Maple Food Market in 2019. Stay tuned!
