Hydeout, Mont Kiara

On weekends, Hydeout serves up Sarawakian signatures like nasi aruk - fried rice that's less oily and more garlicky, rounded out with ikan terubuk masin (salted toli shad fish), sliced ambarella and sambal belacan (RM18). Sarawak laksa is probably also a should-order here on Saturdays and Sundays.

Menu staples span East and West, including the Yakiniku Don (RM22.50; a hearty rice bowl with tangy stir-fried beef and teriyaki sauce) and the House Special Pasta Imelda (RM20.50; named for Hydeout's chef. it's spicy with cili padi, completed with chicken ham, cherry tomatoes, sauteed mushrooms and a fried egg). Wash down with coffee (RM8.50 for a latte), iced lemon tea (RM6.40) or a strawberry smoothie (RM11.50).
