Butter cake bliss: Helmed by a husband-and-wife team, Hideaway harbours a bounty of butter cakes, prepared to a family recipe, with a few fun tweaks to the traditional rendition.
While the classic butter cake (RM9 per slice) is certainly the ideal introduction here, customers can also sample The Victoria, Hideaway's take on the Victoria Sandwich sponge cake, layered with a thin strip of raspberry jam (RM10), or the Pandan Gula Melaka, bearing the unmistakable aroma of screwpine leaves, complete with coconut flakes for that Malaysian feel (RM10); other butter cake variations include the Orange (RM9) and the Lemon Orange Poppyseed (RM10). The cakes prove light and fluffy, with elegantly evident buttery nuances.
For a warm meal preceding the cake, have some chicken - on toast for a snack (RM18) or with pasta, anchovies and chillies for a full lunch (RM18). And of course, where there's cake, there's coffee - or a Raspberry Cooler that could be the perfect companion for The Victoria.
