Helmed by a former home baker and her husband, KlyCakes Cafe serves up everything from hot meals to high tea, from East to West, from Egg Shakshuka to Smoked Chicken Bagels to Spaghetti Goreng Kampung.
KlyCakes Cafe is also a delicious destination for an Afternoon Tea Set of classic and contemporary creations, such as Strawberry Paris Brest, Peach Strudels, Berries Pavlova, Pistachio Cheesecake Tacos, Matcha Strawberry Croissants and Cranberry Scones.
Fun fact: KlyCakes Cafe's founder launched her own home baking business in in Bandar Saujana Utama in 2016 before moving to Seremban. She enthusiastically takes part in culinary masterclasses in KL to hone her skills - in 2021, she finally realised her dream of starting her own full-fledged cafe.
Soothing in shades of blue and white, lined with lovely murals of peonies, KlyCakes Cafe has blossomed into one of Seremban's most popular Muslim-owned cafes.
When we visited on a recent Wednesday, the cafe was bustling throughout lunchtime, with happy customers indulging in pastas and pastries.
On weekends, it lures customers from the Klang Valley and Malacca, since it's strategically near the Seremban exit of the North-South Expressway.
For fans of big breakfasts served all day long, Kly’s Big Breakfast (RM24.90) rounds up everything we want for a hearty platter of sourdough toast and hash brown with sausages, folded egg, streaky beef, baked beans, tomato, sautéed mushrooms and capsicum.
Highlights of this vibrantly colourful ensemble include the folded egg, softly moist and warmly creamy on the inside, and baked beans with a lively tomato tang. Bring your appetite!
Egg Shakshuka (RM19.90) is richly complex, with perfectly runny eggs popping with the robust kick of tomatoes, onions, capsicum and jalapeños, a punchy pairing with sourdough toast for a flavour-packed, full-bodied chew.
Bagel buffs will enjoy sinking their teeth into Smoked Chicken Bagel (RM18), layered with smoked chicken, tomato, salad leaves and cream cheese.
KlyCakes Cafe makes its own bagels and cream cheese. The bagels are tender, grilled to order and gorgeous with the garlicky, herbaceous cream cheese.
When hunger pangs hit for lunch or dinner, check out the Spaghetti Goreng Kampung (RM18.90), one of KlyCakes' original creations: Fried pasta that umami-loaded with an anchovy-chilli paste, savoury with a hint of heat, inspired by nasi goreng kampung, tossed with chunks of chicken and vegetables. A favourite among regulars who return for this recipe!
Other pleasurable pasta possibilities include the Streaky Beef Aglio Olio, generously garnished with plenty of meat and vegetables (RM22.90), and Smoked Beef Creamy Pasta, aromatically luscious with Parmesan and cream (RM24.90).
Save space for a sweet finish: The Berries Pistachio French Toast (RM18.90) is nearly too pretty to eat, an irresistible vanilla-dipped brioche blanketed with mascarpone, strawberry compote, pistachio glaze, fresh strawberries and blueberries. With a merry multitude of fruity and nutty flavours, it's guaranteed to make a good day even better!
Butter Croissants (RM9) with Belgium Chocolate (RM10) make for a simple but satisfying partnership - it's a decadent delight to dunk the flaky, crisp croissant in the chocolate, house-blended with Callebaut 811 dark chocolate and vanilla extract.
The Afternoon Tea Set is a crowd-pleaser: Choose your own personal selection of six to 10 French-style desserts. Offerings rotate regularly, so there's always something new to try. A complimentary serving of English Breakfast Tea is offered on a minimum order of RM55.
Recent choices include the Chocolate Hazel Paris Brest (RM17; choux pastry with house-made hazelnut praline), Strawberry Paris Brest (RM16; with hazelnut meringue and strawberry cream), Peach Strudel (RM15; loaded with ripe, nectarous peaches on puff pastry), Berries Pavlova (RM16; a standout for fans of fresh fruits), Pistachio Cheesecake Taco (RM17; puff pastry transformed into a taco, packed with pistachio raspberry cheesecake), Matcha Strawberry Croissant (RM15; with a Niko Neko Matcha spread, showered with matcha sprinkles and strawberries) and Cranberry Scone (RM11; in-house scones, complete with strawberry compote and clotted cream).
