Ahh-Yum celebrates Merdeka 2024 with hibiscus-inspired desserts & drinks at KLIA2

Ahh-Yum-12.jpg
If you're flying in and out of KLIA2, bookmark Ahh-Yum for its Merdeka specials: Inspired by Malaysia's national flower, Ahh-Yum has infused the flavour and fragrance of hibiscus into distinctive desserts and drinks!

Select a main course with a choice of one hibiscus dessert and one hibiscus drink for RM55.

From Hibiscus Lychee Cake and Hibiscus Cheese Tarts to Hibiscus Calamansi Soda Fizz, these treats make a magical match with Ahh-Yum's all-time favourites of Nasi Lemak Ayam Goreng Berempah and Nasi Bunga Telang Ayam Goreng Berempah.

The Happy Merdeka Malaysia menu runs from now until 30 September 2024.

Ahh-Yum-10.jpg
The Nasi Lemak Ayam Goreng Berempah Set (RM35 a la carte) features basmathi rice cooked with coconut, ginger and pandan, robustly rich with santan. The flagship fried chicken leg is juicy in every chew, showered in herbs and specially spiced crumbs, complete with signature sweet-sour anchovy shrimp sambal, egg, cucumber and peanuts.

The Nasi Bunga Telang Ayam Goreng Berempah Set (RM35 a la carte) is also built for big appetites, naturally hued with blue pea flower, rounded out with crispy fried chicken, sambal, salted egg, pickled vegetables, papadom, plus a choice of creamy curry kampong, masak lemak cili padi or asam pedas. Every spoonful supplies a smorgasbord of tastes and textures, from tangy to savoury to spicy.

Desserts and drinks are included in the Merdeka set and can also be ordered a la carte.

The Hibiscus Lychee Cake (RM22) is floral and fruity, layered with cream cheese that's steeped in hibiscus syrup for a lively uplift, laced with lychee bits for a refreshing treat.

The Hibiscus Cheese Tart (RM19) comprises hibiscus-tinged cheese, savoury and subtly sour in scrumptious synergy, sprinkled with lightly crunchy hibiscus-flavoured crumbs.

Finish with the Hibiscus Calamansi Soda Fizz (RM15), a perky, pleasantly piquant thirst-quencher, perfect for beating the heat and humidity.

Another current special is the Beef Pie (RM12), a British classic with a Malaysian twist, stuffed with succulent beef rendang. Fabulous for a fast, fuss-free meal on the move if you're rushing for your flight.

Fun fact: Ahh-Yum has now been at KLIA2's Departure Hall for 15 months, serving truly Malaysian recipes that have become beloved across numerous branches in the Klang Valley. These offerings span everything from hearty rice and noodle classics to soulful snacks such as Kampong Kravers' famous XL Spiral Curry Puffs, cucur bawang, cekodok and more!

Can't get enough of Ahh-Yum's nasi lemak? Rejoice with the range of possibilities- Nasi Lemak Basmathi with Sambal Sotong (RM32) and Nasi Lemak Basmathi with Sambal Udang (RM32) will satisfy cravings for luscious, lip-smacking seafood sambal, complementing the rice with complete confidence.

Ahh-Yum-22.jpgAhh-Yum-23.jpg
Noodles are also a smash hit, all with Ahh-Yum's thoughtful touches.

Mee Rebus (RM22) boasts yellow noodles in sweet potato gravy with a chicken stock base, blanketed with egg, fried tauhu, bean sprouts, fresh chillies and kasturi lime. We love the thick broth, addictive to the final slurp, impeccably paired with squid sambal on the side.

Bring on the Bergedil! Soto Ayam (RM22) boasts firm-textured vermicelli with tender rice cakes, mingling with potato patties, shredded chicken, egg, peanuts, spring onions, chillies and lime in spiced chicken broth with sharply aromatic black sauce - a tantalising testament to a time-honoured Southeast Asian staple.

Ahh-Yum-16.jpgAhh-Yum-17.jpg
Curry Laksa (RM26) is a crowd-pleaser - the familiar comfort fare of noodles in curry with prawns, shredded chicken, fish cakes, egg, taufu pok, fried beancurd, bean sprouts, long beans, shallots, chillies and lime, potent with the tropical perfume of curry leaves, enhanced with the shrimp-based umami of sambal belacan. A warm hug in a bowl.

Nyonya Laksam (RM32) is a beautifully vibrant bowl of rice noodles in complex fish broth, balanced in sweet, sour and spicy sensations, coated with tuna chunks, pineapple, egg, fresh herbs, vegetables, sambal belacan and lime. Intensely irresistible!

Ahh-Yum is also perennially popular for teatime temptations.

The Spiral Curry Puffs XL Chicken & Egg (RM8) is a longtime fan favourite, a family recipe that has endured for years since the inception of Kampong Kravers, baked instead of fried, a pleasure of crackly-flaky, buttery pastry filled with chicken and egg.

Also check out the Cekodok (RM10; densely packed dough fritters with banana) and Cucur Bawang (RM10; generously portioned onion fritters with chives, carrots, cabbage, corn, herbs and spices, delicious for dunking in a peanut dip).

Nostalgic sweet indulgences include Bubur Pulut Hitam (RM12; black glutinous rice porridge with earthy, nutty notes, enriched with palm sugar and coconut milk) and Pengat Pisang (RM15; softened ripe bananas simmered in coconut milk with palm sugar, sago and pandan leaves).

Recommended beverages include Sirap Bandung (RM13; a relatively wholesome rendition, relying on beetroot juice instead of syrup) and 4 Sekawan Soda (RM16; zesty with the citrusy zing of lemon, kasturi lime and kaffir lime leaves).

Healthy bottled juices are available, with no added preservatives or artificial colouring, all with trusted, time-honoured local ingredients, including Turmeric Lemon Ginger (RM13), Beetroot Sirap Selasih (RM13) and Lemongrass Pandan Ginger (RM13).
