One Brick Drop, Damai Road

Formerly housing Laos’ embassy in KL, Damai Road’s new bungalow space One Brick Drop is the city’s sunlit sanctuary for modern fare like uni pasta, ikura pesto risotto and engawa claypot rice.

One Brick Drop is envisioned to evolve into a creative community hub for craft markets, collaborative workshops and cultural events. It also hosts two Johor-born brands: Re Patisserie, a dessert store that will debut later next month, and Hiapoe, a boutique for fresh florals and lifestyle goods.

Gorgeous with a gravel garden of palms and shrubs, One Brick Drop is now soft-launched, officially opening 8 November.

Bangsar’s new Chara blazes in with bold-flavoured bravado, cranking up a parrilla open-flame grill to bring elemental energy to Argentinian beef steaks and ribs.

The beefiest binge? The Argentinian Black Angus picanha, sultry with primal seduction, its robust juices bolstered by roasted bone jus, extra-guilty with crackly crisps of beef tallow smashed potatoes.

Chara is no conventional steakhouse: Its durian wood-grilled fare breaks through Southeast and South Asia’s borders.

Twelve-hour-smoked beef ribs bear hints of Indonesian iga bakar, served with spicy peanut sauce and shallot anchovy salad; five-day-aged golden pomfret is marinated with house-fermented chillies that channel Thai aromatics; lamb finds heat and harmony with Indian-inflected smoked tomato chutney and spiced yogurt.

Even small bites strike big. Try the beef offal skewers, baited with gelatinous honeycomb tripe and intestines, sticky-smoky with a crunchy Chara char.

Service is warm, welcoming and meticulous.

Kani Kawa's three kinds of crabs promise a luxurious crustacean experience.

King Crabs prove the sweetest and meatiest, close to the succulence of lobsters.

Snow Crabs taste subtly briny with the flavours of the ocean, while Horsehair Crabs are the most delicate with beautifully tender flesh.

Choose your crab parts from the counter or order them whole from the kitchen.
