Cheras' latest modern cafe fires up honest fare with hearty flavours, laced with Australian-sourced flair in its coffee and more.
Persuasive pasta is scarce in this neighbourhood, but Chums could change that - its white wine spaghetti with calamari and marjoram is rich and buttery, firm and fresh (RM34), while its cannelloni is creamy with cheddar, meaty with duck ragout and fragrant with rosemary (RM32).
With a gentle piano soundtrack playing on the speakers, it's easy to linger for a leisurely dessert - the chocolate brownie is buoyed by Murray River salt and rosemary for sweet-savoury, aromatic uplift (RM15.80), while the banana bread is made extra-sinful with whipped mascarpone and milk powder crumbs (RM18). If you like a little spice with your sugar, check out the crushed coconut pavlova with mildly chilli-tinged raspberry ice cream (RM26).
Chums’ coffee beans come from the popular Melburnian Code Black Coffee Roasters - the flat white is a satisfyingly malty medium-roast. Alternatively, order Chums’ speciality beverages like cold brew tea with a cloud of milk foam.
