When a restaurant makes a mean burger, bursting with beautifully harmonised flavours, it's a destination that deserves to be bookmarked. When it dishes out pizzas worth devouring, promising nuanced textures in every chew, it merits all the appreciation we can muster. But if a place can produce both brilliant burgers and pizzas, it's something genuinely special.
It's no shocker then that Patty & Pie is packed on a regular Thursday for lunch. By steadily fine-tuning its prowess over the past three years, it's become a beloved neighbourhood joint, where families and friends know they can be assured of satisfying meals that they'll want to keep returning for.
One look at the Salt n' Beefy (RM29 with herbed fries and a house sauce), and you know that whether you live in Sentul, Seri Kembangan or Sri Hartamas, there's reason to travel to Patty & Pie to sink your teeth into this behemoth, featuring salted beef brisket cured for a week and ground in-house by venue co-founder Nadal, complemented by cheddar, lettuce, pickles and a sharp, tangy horseradish cream. It's a keeper, but there are plenty of other interesting burgers to check out, from the Mac n' Cheese and the XOXO to Patty & Pie's newest baby, the Hot Tamale (RM26), a Mexican-inspired creation with refried beans and chipotle sour cream - the burger equivalents of hearty comfort food. Note that you can opt for beef, chicken or vegetarian falafel for your burger patties, for a nice touch of customisation.
As for pizzas, the selection of no fewer than 10 tempting recipes might seem like a nightmare for indecisive patrons, but thankfully, we can testify that the Truffle Pizza is deliciously dreamy, rich with truffle cream, provolone cheese and half-cooked egg. You can also order a Half-&-Half Pizza (RM39) like we did; our other side was the Azzouzi, a tribute to one of Patty & Pie's regulars who ordered the same pizza every week - a mix of minced lamb, mozzarella, butter, almonds, mint and more, conveying layers of tastiness. And for a twist on the pizza experience, our latest addiction could be the combination of baked camembert cheese with plain pizza slices for delectable dipping, a fun blend of crispy and creamy (RM24).
We're happy that Patty & Pie will be part of Tiffin Food Court's first weekend, on 8-10 December 2017 (Friday to Sunday), as part of a special line-up curated by Eat Drink KL. Patty & Pie will be exclusively serving its Celup Burger (RM 12), with an aromatic, spicy-sweet mix of lemongrass chilli and fresh ulam, for a meticulously conceived burger with Malaysian and Southeast Asian dynamics. This burger is not currently available at the restaurant, so you'll want to check it out at Tiffin Food Court. See facebook.com/tiffinevent for event details.
