Helmed by a Hainanese chef whose inspiration is her own grandmother, Miss Tan Oriental Cuisine flies up our pecking order for chicken rice, relying on free-range fowl sourced daily from a farm on the outskirts of KL.
A single plate of chicken rice clocks in at RM12.90, hitting the mark for chicken rice with a home-cooked feel, with satisfyingly aromatic grains, sumptuously smooth chicken, vegetables and house-blended condiments.
Fried chicken is also available, cooked to order, so it'll require a 15-minute wait - well worthwhile, since this tastes fabulously fresh, a far cry from commercial fried chicken, tenderly fleshy, with clean, natural flavours that hark back to the conscientiously bred poultry of bygone decades.
The chicken is available for lunch and dinner. During dinnertime, the menu is more extensive, with potential highlights like steamed fish, prawns and crabs.
