Milan makes for the ideal base to explore the rest of northern Italy; you can hop on a bus or train and be in, say, fair Verona within one or two hours, spending an entire day in another city before being back in the Lombardy region's capital for a dinner of ham with burrata and spaghetti with bottarga.
