The Green Man

The Green Man has held its ground despite the onslaught of flashy new outlets at Changkat Bukit Bintang in recent years. While it's not exactly one of this street's best eateries, it still serves passable, stomach-filling fare.

Homemade pork pie with Colman's mustard & sweet pickles. This is the Melton Mowbray recipe, using fresh chopped pork instead of cured minced meat for a smoother texture and more robust taste. Served cold, with a lovely layer of jelly between the pork and the crust.

Pork liver, back bacon & onions, lightly fried in brown gravy with mashed potatoes. A hearty, savory platter that won't win any awards, but that's the nature of pub grub, right?

Beer-battered fish & chips with mushy peas & thick-cut fries. Nothing terribly wrong with this, but there's fresher, more satisfying fish at The Magnificent a few doors away.

Chicken Balti (a Bangladeshi dish made famous in Birmingham, according to the menu here). Basically boneless chicken curry served in a wok with naan. Super-spicy.

Baby Guinness (tia maria, kahlua, bailey's) & Guinness.

Green Eyes (blue curacao, galliano, dry vermouth, vodka) & Green Light (rum, creme de menthe, lime juice, pineapple juice).

V.B. (vodka, bailey's) & Irish Coffee (whiskey, coffee, whipped cream).

The Green Man,
Changkat Bukit Bintang.
Check out EAT DRINK, a new F&B website jointly run by The Expat Group (TEG) & Eat Drink KL. This website features all of our up-to-date reviews, plus exclusive weekly articles & a searchable database on restaurants in KL & Selangor:

  1. Hmm, is it me or are there more and more non-halal restaurants in KL?

  2. Oh my goodness - why do those mushy peas look like they could glow in the dark?
(That's quite a bright/ strange shade of green....)

  3. This is one of the places that I haven't been on Changkat. There's just too many of them and now Jalan Beragan is also having a few new joints.

  4. I make it a point to drop in to Green Man each time I'm in KL. Good food, good beer.

  5. michelle: the more the merrier? :D
j: a bit artificial-looking? yeah, u're rite! not sure if it was the lighting in the restaurant or my camera's fault...
eiling: yeah, this is probably the least hip joing at changkat! but i guess it has its faithful fans too, heheh :D
feed me: glad u like it! i'm not really a fan of beer, so i can't appreciate it that much =)

  6. oh.. pub food!!! Normally either I drink or I eat.. never both!

  7. leo: but eating and drinking are more fun when both are done together! :D

  8. I've always wondered about this place - Green Man, what an odd name! But the problem is when I'm in Changkat BB, there're always other "preferred" places... so how?!

  9. pureglutton: yeah, it's a catchy name! true, i've only eaten at this outlet two or three times. but it's stuck around since 2002, so it's definitely a survivor, heheh :D

  10. Maybe I should open a sister pub during CNY called the Red Lady? Then again, it'd probably attract the wrong type of crowd during the rest of the year... :P

  11. lfb: the lady in reeeeeedddddd ... is dancing with me .... cheek to cheeeek ... (sorry, i just can't help taking advantage of the slightest opportunity to start singing)
