Could this be SS2's answer to El Cerdo? Sanbanto uses organic pork from their own farm in Johor to whip up simple but satisfyingly tasty dishes.

The pork liver pate is rave-worthy if you can tolerate the strong flavour of offal. Spread this soft, smooth blend on the bread, then mix in the salad for a luxuriously creamy sandwich.

The piece de resistance is the BBQ pork rib. Every table seemed to order it. Meaty, succulent and sweet, it would be worth returning for this alone.

The two of us were so impressed by the pork rib, we decided to order the pastas too. We enjoyed the comfort foodish spaghetti with thin-sliced pork belly and peas, though the pastas are slightly less than al dente here.

Pork bolognaise pappardelle. Would have been more fulfilling with extra minced pork. But still scrumptious, with bits of pork lard adding some crunch.

The spaghetti with short ribs was oily but sinfully pleasurable. We considered shocking the restaurant staff by asking for the pork belly salad and bacon burger as well, but realized that we had hit our cholesterol quota for the week.

Ooh pork ribs. I had more than my fair share the past couple of nights at Robson Heights and again at Canton Fare. Yummy yum yums.
ReplyDeleteNow that Raya is over, is it time for us to diet again? :P
what?! noooo, raya isn't really over yet! and there's still the mid-autumn festival next week! and then deepavali next month. so hush now, don't mention the d-word for a few more weeks...
ReplyDeleteSounds like SS2 is slowly redefining itself once more as THE makan spot this side of PJ.
ReplyDeleteWould love to give that pork ribs and pork ribs pasta a try.
What's the price point like?
i still get hopelessly lost in ss2 though. or rather, i get lost nearly everywhere in pj...
ReplyDeletethe pastas are about 20 ringgit each. the pork rib is 38 ringgit, but it can be shared by two non-gluttonous eaters.
we r selling fresh and hygiene pork! .. teehee.. farnee:P
ReplyDeletegood find! looks like we need to go here soon:) munkey.. JOM!
that piggy is so cute. reminds me of babe. =)
ReplyDeleteoh that's rather reasonable, for such glorious porcine affair.
ReplyDeleteno suckling pig?
nope, the dine-in menu is still kinda limited. there's pork knuckle though!
ReplyDeleteanother great place for porky... organic babi some more!!! yummy!! don't have to worry about the beta-agonist compound anymore!! yay!!! (very enthusiastic)
ReplyDeleteplus point... it's soooooo near my house!
the place is clean, comfortable and air-conditioned too, so u should be able to bring your baby along. oh btw, call them to make a booking if u're going during peak hours though, cos there are not many tables and it can get packed...
ReplyDeleteisnt ss2 parking a nitemare ar..
ReplyDeleteso wheres the piglet to go battle against el cerdo hehe =)
it's a real horror, but this outlet is near the parking lot that faces waisikkai.
ReplyDeleteyeah, hopefully they expand their menu soon to include suckling pig! :D
yeah... the road which Sanbanto is located is a nightmare for parking as there are too many eateries like KTZ, Little Dim Sum etc. I think that i know where to park, too familar with the area already!
ReplyDeleteOoo..close enough to walk to from home. Shall be dropping by there for a visit when becks gets better ;)
ReplyDeleteleo: and there's a good dvd shop on that row too!
ReplyDeleteunka: hope u don't force her to walk there in her weakened state!!! but yeah, she'd need some sinful food after two weeks of eating healthy :P
There you go again about your imaginary cholesterol quota! I reckon they shouldn't have the pic of the cute pig up though... kinda defeats the ex-vegetarians in us! :-S
ReplyDeleteit's not imaginary, it's just ambiguous! :D
ReplyDeletecute animals are ultimately more appetizing than ugly ones though!
good?? No No No... my wifey and I kena conned already... initially promised to exchange if not satisfied but in the end, claimed to have no stock and didn't allow us to change other movies... just be careful and ask to test the DVD first ok?
ReplyDeleteFor good one... go to 1st floor in Digital Mall Sect 14... at your 10 o'clock once you go up the escalator! I bought most of my DVD there!
yikes! i just bought a dozen dvds there! haven't watched them yet, hopefully they're all OK. their selection was quite impressive. i usually just buy my dvds whenever i see a shop around :D
ReplyDeleteoohh..dont have to go so far for porky fix!
ReplyDeleteToo bad my Pg friends went back di..tht nite we went to Vintrys and they were not impressed ;p
penang people are soooooooo tough to please! :P
ReplyDeletehi. I'm working in Sanbanto. I dont mean to spoil your blog entry but I would like to rectify the term "organic" pork that you used. I'm not saying that you're wrong but that the industry has polluted the public's mind by declaring "organic" out of thin air.
ReplyDeleteJust to clarify things, we're not selling organic pork because we are only certified ISO 22000, not certified organic.
any farm that wants to claim organic status must have a certification from a recognized body. SO! in malaysia, there isn't any organic pig farm yet. whoever tells you so must show relevant certs.
sorry for this but Sanbanto just doesnt want to be sued...
Sanbanto pork is more towards natural pork. similar to some of the established taiwanese farms with similar certifications.
ReplyDeletehi jinn, no worries, thanks for the clarification. sorry for using the wrong term. i guess what's important is that u guys are serving relatively healthier pork. =)
ReplyDeleteHi
