The Filling Station @ Desa Sri Hartamas

The Filling Station is fuelled by a cool concept - a full-fledged cafe with a surprisingly ambitious menu inside a petrol station. You can customise your own platters of rice, pasta or salad here, mixing & matching multiple bases, toppings & drizzles - we had nasi lemak with lamb curry (RM15.90), spaghetti aglio olio with shrimp, zucchini noodles & broccoli (RM21.90) & organic quinoa tabbouleh with poached eggs, grilled sweet potatoes, tempeh & a lime-cilantro hummus-inspired dressing (RM20.90). The caveat of this quick-service fix is that some ingredients may have been prepared too far in advance to taste satisfyingly fresh, & there might be a lack of cohesive flavours in certain combinations; the seasonings & sauces also tasted off-balance for our pasta & quinoa. There's space for fine-tuning, though on the bright side, the service team is genuinely warm & efficient. The Filling Station has plenty of potential, & we hope to see it pop up in more Shell station locations in the months to come.

  1. Oh? So this is right beside a petrol station? We have one here - I did blog about it but I have not gone back since as it is a little out of the way, along the so-called pan-Borneo highway. Food looks good - they sure poach 'em eggs well.

    1. Suituapui: it's nice to have warm food available at petrol stations - besides the McDonald's and KFCs that we see elsewhere ya! And a cafe on a highway would be a sight for sore eyes and a relief for hungry stomachs! ;)

  2. So, you can fill up your car as well as your tummy at the Filling Station! ;) Good concept (if they lower their prices a bit) but not sure if it'll work in the city where access to makan places is easy and plenty. If the petrol station houses a car wash, then maybe people may be tempted to have a quick meal or a cup of coffee here while waiting for their cars to be washed (that I wouldn't mind)...hehe! ;D

    1. Contact.ewew: ooo I can't recall if there's a car wash at this station. But ya, it's really close to all the many eateries at desa sri hartamas. I guess the unique aspect for the food is the customisation of the platters/bowls ;)
