Maxandcarl Kitchen @ Ampang

Thanks to its tagline 'hipster kampung flavours,' we couldn't resist a visit to Maxandcarl: The top highlights here hail from Kelantan, owing more to tradition than trendiness, with recipes like nasi ulam (RM14.90; served with chicken), ikan singgang (RM14.90; with rice & omelette), laksam, colek ayam janda & siakap percik that might receive a rousing reception in Kota Bharu. The kitchen puts effort into the preparation, the sauces pack a true punch, & prices feel sensible, though our preference would have been for many more herbs in the nasi ulam & a cleaner, less pungently fishy flavour for the ikan singgang.

  1. Nasi kerabu? Oooooo...I want!!! Interesting shapes, the keropok. Kampung cuisine, that's the one for me!

    1. Suituapui: kampung flavours are lovely, ya - especially when they use really fresh herbs and vegetables (i'm a fan of ulam) :D

  2. I found myself hard to pronounce their name >_<

    1. Choi Yen: haha, think of it as Max & Carl :)
