Gourmandis

Part Two of our Citta Mall exploration: After a middling brunch at Baci, we crossed the corridor for a midday meal at Gourmandis, one of the extremely few outlets here that offer booze.

Gourmandis' food is of the "fusion" bent, blending Eastern & Western sensibilities. The tempura soft-shell crab with bearnaise & red wine reduction sounded promising and looked hearty but tasted like typical soft-shell crab. Nothing more, nothing less.

Rigatoni carbonara with crispy beef bacon & fresh basil. One of those pastas that customers might chew absent-mindedly for a few minutes, and when it's finished, their only recollection would be, "it was OK." In all fairness, we would have loved this 15 years ago, when carbonara was relatively new in KL.

Squid ink linguine in curry laksa with prawns, calamari, clams, chicken, egg, tauhu pok & fuchuk. Alas, the pasta was limp, the broth was weak, and the seafood was less than satisfyingly fresh.

Carta Vieja Origen Chardonnay (Chile) & Santa Magherita Cuvee Pinot Rosso (Italy).

Singapore Sling & Tequila Sunrise cocktails. Cheap, but tasted nearly like mocktails.

Cafe Puci (rum, amaretto almond, espresso) & Long Island Iced Tea.

A note of caution: like Baci, Gourmandis has no credit card facilities so far (though both will, eventually). And like Baci, Gourmandis only informed us of its cash-only conditions when we were settling the bill, not while we were ordering. This could have been inconvenient, since the mall currently only has one ATM-equipped outlet.

  4. Joe: there'll be a meatworks opening here (a branch of the steakhouse from solaris mont kiara), so that might help to save the dining scene here. though for me, solaris is a closer location compared to ara damansara :D
Baby sumo: yeah, I wonder if we ordered the wrong items. They also serve pizzas and local fare like Nasi lemak ... Maybe those are better. Or maybe not =)
Michelle: yeah, I think they'll do OK in this mall for now, since there are a lot of customers around and not much competition so far, but in the long run, hmmmmmm....

  5. Hmm sounds like because the mall is so new the eateries are still getting their acts together. As you said previously there's mainly photocopies of other established eateries so maybe they're not trying as hard to please. Ho hum.

  7. extreme power: nice presentation for the cocktails, true :D
hungry female: yeah, and customers are still thronging all the outlets here, regardless of the quality of the food, so there might be a sense of complacency among the restaurants for now. i guess i can't really blame them =)
ciki: heheh, one more citta mall entry this week, and that'll be it for now! :D anyways, luckily the cocktail prices weren't steep ... everything was below RM30 =)

  14. hungry female: after six months, they still haven't got their act together. bad christmas eve dinner experience.

felt cheated when was told when credit card facilities not working, when actually they dont have the facility since they opened. also, they shouldn't put their credit card logos on their entrance door. definitely trying to cheat people.

  15. Been there twice, first time was ok but a number of items not available and found service a little lacking (a weekend lunchtime). Went again last week on an evening and servce was abysmal, I had to get up fom the table 3 times o get attention and it wasn't t all busy, at times 3 staff were stood together absolutely oblivious to us trying to get their attention!
