Buffalo mozzarella with vine-ripened tomatoes. Probably KL's best Caprese salad, thanks to tomatoes that were far juicier and sweeter than supermarket varieties.
Spaghetti carbonara with parma ham & parmesan shavings. Less creamy but more satisfyingly flavor-packed than most versions elsewhere. Might be even better if the parma ham could be served as soft, succulent slices, instead of crisp strips.
Basil risotto with pan-roasted scallops. Not as wonderful as the other risotto that we had here previously. The taste of the rice was too subtle to leave a lasting impression.
Ravioli with shellfish stuffing, squid & tarragon emulsion. All the ocean's distinctive flavors, enveloped in pasta's comforting _ but not too heavy _ carbohydrate embrace.
Pan-roasted Atlantic cod on a bed of Savoy cabbage & pumpkin sauce. Always nice to see Savoy cabbage on any menu, since it's kinda uncommon here. Its tame taste and tender texture made it the perfect partner for the firm, fleshy fish.
Ricotta cake with orange & pistachio. The perfect cheese cake? Nearly as light as mousse yet still ravishingly creamy, with a flavor that was both delicate and delicious.
Chocolate & vanilla gelati. A chilly finish to a chilled-out meal.
Orvieto & Sauvignon Blanc.
Vin Santo Serelle & Moscato dessert wines.

I love this plc too!
ReplyDeleteTheir repertoire of pasta is amazing! I'm so so bored of the common spag!
also, once I complained abt the Oreoch..something and the very nx day, the manager said their chef has acknowledged it and they sent me a complimentary dish with the same lamb ragout etc, but this time with gnocchi.
It worked better w gnocchi than the oreochett....
and yes yes..the ricotta cheese cake is loveeeely..but different taste from the normal ricotta cheese I ate in salads hor?
ReplyDeleteTng: ya, their pasta alone could keep customers coming back over and over again! even after four entries, I still haven't finished trying all their pastas yet (though I hope they'll still try to refresh their menu every few months or so). hmmm yeah, i think ricotta (besides mascarpone) probably is one of the best kinds of cheese to make dessert, since it's light but creamy and a bit sweet...
ReplyDeleteyou do like this place don't you sean?
ReplyDeleteI recommended it to a friend, only gripe is it is a way bit too pricey
Food lover: oh yeah, it's a wallet-busting affair here. But I hear the set lunches are relatively more affordable and not too shabby either, taste-wise
ReplyDeleteIL Lido to you is like home-cooked food yeah?!! Haha
ReplyDeleteeiling: as comforting and nutritious as home-cooked food, in it's on way! :D
ReplyDeletelyla: will definitely be back soon, once the rooftop bar is open (later this month, right?) :D
Yay! I'm finally heading there next week and just from your posts, have gotten my knickers in a twist over what to order! I may start with the Ravioli! Or the cod! Aghhhh!!
ReplyDeletemin: yeah, trying to choose just a few dishes is a nearly impossible task! but since u're more into seafood than meat, u'll be happy to know they have 5-6 fish dishes available :D
ReplyDeletemy oh my.. u r really biased on Italian restaurants!!
ReplyDeleteWhat I'd do is to come here.. order two main dish with 2 glass of water :P maybe a dessert if the budget permits!
leo: yep, i'd definitely pick italian as my favorite kind of food :D their set lunches are good value, i think around rm48++ ... but maybe not available on weekends...
ReplyDeleteYour posts on Il Lido has gotten my mouth watering. I'm heading over there tomorrow to give it a try. Thanks for all the suggestions on what to order.
ReplyDeleteHi Sean! Been scouring your blog trying to find an email to send you an invitation to a food tasting session, but apparently to no avail.haha. Do drop me an email at inouyeaiko@gmail.com so i can send you the invitation. Cheers!
ReplyDeleteEatbitemuch: I really hope u enjoy it, despite all the raised expectations! Am looking forward to hear what u think :D
ReplyDeleteSomeone: will do!
Hehe, taking a certain devilish love of mine to this place soon for a birthday dinner for two. (Finally I'll get to dine here!)
ReplyDeletelfb: hope u have a blast! considering the frequency that i've been eating here, there's a 1/10 chance that i'll bump into you! if that happens, i'll be sure to sing him happy birthday :D
ReplyDeleteHaha, I'm sure he'd be delighted to hear your GLEE-ful singing voice. Tenor, yes? :P
ReplyDeletelfb: my rendition of 'happy birthday' has been known to bring grown men to tears! as one witness described it, i displayed "all the power of pavarotti, the melodicism of mariah and the emotion of ella fitzgerald." :D
ReplyDeleteAre you sure the tears aren't caused by a pitch higher than what even my Kou Kou can hear? :P
ReplyDeletelfb: i have indeed come close to shattering a wine glass or two with my higher octaves. but i'd try to avoid that at il lido, for obvious reasons :P
ReplyDeleteShall I tell the good folks at Il Lido, when I make my reservation, that I'm a friend of their Singing Patron? :P
ReplyDeletelfb: sure. use my code name: dorothy :P
ReplyDeleteWell, for sure thou art no Brainless Scarecrow. Though if my Kou Kou ever came near you with his really-harmless barking, you might just well turn into the Cowardly Lion as with Dorothy's Toto... :P
ReplyDeletelfb: ahh, so it's true after all that barking dogs never bite (i don't have enough experience with canines to know)? then again, they should, right, if it were a real thief or intruder...
ReplyDeleteWell, you could be a thief (sorta) since I am sure you steal the thunder from any hosts with your gleeful numbers... :P
ReplyDeleteLfb: me, steal the spotlight? But why would I need to steal something that's already rightfully mine? =)
ReplyDeleteOh we should put you and Jennifer Hudson in the same room and have you guys duke it out. Or do I mean belt it out?
ReplyDeleteWhatever. Diva meets diva. Should be make for some fun watching.
Lfb: hmph, I'm insulted!
ReplyDelete*thinks for two seconds*
Jennifer is a minor-league diva. I wanna belt it out with barbra streisand!
I had thought Jennifer would be closer to your age range, but alas! my mistake. Madam Streisand is infinitely more appropriate for you, my friend, age-wise. :)
ReplyDeletelfb: age is but a number! i'm best matched with barbra for our similarities in hard-earned wisdom and classic vocal elegance. just as u might be best paired with ... errrmm, miley cyrus? :D
ReplyDeleteNot Miley, but someone similarly aged. Zac Efron. Ah yes. :D
ReplyDeletelfb: hmmm. that makes u vanessa hudgens, huh :P
ReplyDeleteThank you for recommending Il Lido - this time we agree on a restaurant. We found the service a little overly attentive as we like our table service to be seamless and inconspicuous. Although seeing its a new establishment in KL I'm willing to give it time to settle and be comfortable with itself. Other than that, the food is great.
ReplyDeleteSean, do you have an email add?
ReplyDeleteNeed to ask you a few questions.
Thanks!
nha: yep, i'm hoping they survive for a long time, since they're definitely my favorite new restaurant so far this year :D
ReplyDeletejohnny: it's seanyoong at gmail.com
Reporting back to Captain Sean: Took Devil to Il Lido tonight and both the food and service were impeccable! Now I know why you keep coming back. It's soooo good. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the reccie, bro!
lfb: phew! relieved to hear it, corporal kenny! am glad to have played a small part in the birthday merriment :D
ReplyDeleteYou're MAD! So many visits within the same week?! Or spaced out?
ReplyDeleteI have heard much about Il Lido.
Many chose to celebrate occasions there.
j2kfm: heh, spaced out. but yeah, this is the place that i've visited the most in the past month. it's a good place for a (quiet) celebration, definitely.
