It's kinda strange seeing a Japanese restaurant on this row of pubs, but Ocha presents a relatively healthy alternative to the pork knuckles that its neighbors serve.

This recipe of raw salmon with mountain yam & quail's egg is light and tasty. Beware though: squeamish diners might feel its texture reminds them too much of mucus.

The sashimi platter is reasonably priced at below RM60 for five varieties. Not the most memorable selection in town, but fresh enough to recommend.

Clams steamed in sake-laced soup. Piping-hot broth, perfect for a chilly evening.

Yakitori is also available; succulent, but not as smoky and savory as it should be.

Skip the chicken skin skewers. Dried out and seemingly overcooked.

All in all, we're not super-enthusiastic about Ocha _ but if Sid's, Hoofed, 42 East, Boathouse and Tom, Dick & Harry's are all packed on any given night, then sure: walk over here instead.

  1. TTDI seems to be flooded with restaurants!

  2. Well, at least it's a non-babi, non-Western option (for the TTDI area).... That block of shops seemed to be turning into babi central before this. :)

  3. Hmm absolutely nothing wrong with babi central! I wish Ocha luck.. and lotsa it!

  4. michelle: and there's still space for more (though parking is getting messier!) :D
j: ya, variety is the spice of life, rite! i wish the menu at ocha could have been a bit more adventurous though =)
min: i think ocha is gonna need it! i'm not sure it's attracting much business away from its pork-lovin' neighbors!

  5. i loved the glowing bar counter!

  6. babe_kl: ya, that's the most eye-catching part of the restaurant, heheh!

  7. Hhmm.. there's no Jap anywhr in tht vicinity (other than in 1U), and knowin Msians penchant for all things Jap, it might just work.. might.

  8. tng: ya, though frankly, i'd probably rather drive another 5-10 mins from here to hartamas or solaris instead...

  9. Hi Sean, thanks for your review and comments on our food. We are spinning out new menu and special items weekly and be sure to ask our friendly service staff for recommendations.
