Ocha

It's kinda strange seeing a Japanese restaurant on this row of pubs, but Ocha presents a relatively healthy alternative to the pork knuckles that its neighbors serve.

This recipe of raw salmon with mountain yam & quail's egg is light and tasty. Beware though: squeamish diners might feel its texture reminds them too much of mucus.

The sashimi platter is reasonably priced at below RM60 for five varieties. Not the most memorable selection in town, but fresh enough to recommend.

Clams steamed in sake-laced soup. Piping-hot broth, perfect for a chilly evening.

Yakitori is also available; succulent, but not as smoky and savory as it should be.

Skip the chicken skin skewers. Dried out and seemingly overcooked.

All in all, we're not super-enthusiastic about Ocha _ but if Sid's, Hoofed, 42 East, Boathouse and Tom, Dick & Harry's are all packed on any given night, then sure: walk over here instead.

Ocha,

  2. Well, at least it's a non-babi, non-Western option (for the TTDI area).... That block of shops seemed to be turning into babi central before this. :)
