Sacha & Sons @ Mandarin Gallery, Singapore

This New York-inspired deli at Singapore's Mandarin Gallery offers a bunch of stuff unseen in KL, specifically Jewish fare like latke (potato-&-onion pancakes traditionally part of the Hannukah festival, served here with creme fraiche & salmon roe) & matzo ball soup (with dumplings made with matzah meal, eggs & fat). Some recipes might be an acquired taste, missing the culinary firepower that Asian palates adore, but we'd return for the brilliant bagels with luscious chopped liver, a satisfying lunch pairing with prosecco & red wine. You'll also find numerous other NYC staples like pastrami knishes & grilled Reubens.

333A Orchard Road. Mandarin Gallery. #03-02, Singapore. Daily, 10am-10pm. Tel: 65-6735-6961

Bonus stops for sweets: Caneles at Paul & chocolate macarons at Laduree (the latter gilded with an edible 22-carat gold leaf for $7.90 per piece) prove to be irresistible purchases while popping by Singapore's Ngee Ann City complex, home to both of these iconic French brands.
