Ode Art Cafe, Le Lumineux & Fury Cafe @ SS15 Subang

Sometime in 2014, we stumbled on Ode Art Cafe & met its founder Cassie for the first time; she was preparing to leave to see her husband, who was recovering from a hospital procedure, but she was kind, patient & generous enough to spend several minutes talking to us. We returned weeks later & chatted with Cassie & her father, enjoying their hospitality, spaghetti & coffee. Since then, this creative community space has welcomed many more visitors & cultivated a reputation as a soul-soothing sanctuary on Subang's crowded streets. We haven't been back in a long while, but we have fond memories of Ode Art Cafe.

It can be interesting for a cafe enthusiast to simply stroll around in Subang's SS15 enclave - on practically every corner, there's a discovery to be made, such as Le Lumineux, a new venue where positive vibes & pork recipes take centre-stage. Spicy-sweet pork masala spaghetti (RM17.90+), roasted pork belly with rosemary-infused plum dip (RM15.50+), pork satay with kitchen-made spiced apple sauce (RM15.50+) - the menu is admirably & appealingly ambitious, offering hearty portions for fair prices, but the flavours, textures & freshness of the meat require fine-tuning; for our meal, the pork tasted past its prime.

One more for the road: Fury Cafe is another of Subang's indie hangouts, located beside the Riders Garage bikers' store, folded under the Art Of Speed brand. Shop for a helmet, then take a break with cake baked by Seven Deadly Sins Desserts - inventive varieties include the Salted Gula Melaka cheesecake with coconut & Caramoffee with coffee sponge & toffee bits.

  2. Interesting how the first cafe uses recycled materials for their seats and tables! I think this is a great idea!

  5. Lovely homely place. Not much pork belly for RM15.50, I see. Seems that pork is getting to be very expensive here, dunno over at your side. Chicken's the cheapest of the lot at this point in time. Crackling does not look all that well done. Satay with apple sauce? Interesting!

    1. Suituapui: yeah, i've resigned myself to paying for pork - ya, the crackling for the belly wasn't as crispy-crunchy as we expected. the apple sauce was an interesting partner for the satay though :)
