Kulcats Barrio & The Pound @ Taman Tun

It's raining Cats & Dogs at Taman Tun Dr Ismail, thanks to these two neighborhood newbies that could potentially cultivate a fierce following.

First up, the cool kids are slinking over to Kulcats Barrio, a color-soaked venue with artistic flourishes aplenty. It's no less than the embodiment of 'hipster hangout.'

The menu's a hearty hodgepodge of Western faves, from a beefy-good "Sloppycats Burger" with moreish "Meow Fries" (RM18) to steaks, short-ribs & nachos.

Kulcats makes its own desserts; the chocolate pavlova's nice enough to make us believe the banoffee pies & carrot cakes here might also prove purr-worthy.

Lap up a hazelnut latte (or maybe the intriguing-sounding Kulcats Volcano Milo Smoothie).

Next up, also in TTDI: The Pound, where every pork-loving dawg might have his day.

The Pound's signature pork burger (RM25) is a hefty one, abounding in savoriness. Everything from ribs to roasts is available here too.

Cutely named "Dogs in Blankets & Quilts" (RM20), hot dogs wrapped in bacon & chive omelet.

More barking-mad monikers: Dirty Doberman (gin, dry vermouth, olive juice) & Mexican Chihuahua (tequila, triple sec, grenadine syrup, orange juice).

Receiving our howl of approval: Chilean wine at RM15 per glass, before taxes.

  3. What cute names with cats and dogs! I am certainly inclined to take a bite out of the Sloppycats Burger and get as sloppy as I can with it! hehe

    1. Iamthewitch: oh yeah, it's interesting that a cat-loving outlet and a dog-focused one have both opened at nearly the same time in taman tun. Though both very different from each other and completely unrelated :D heh, we ate that burger politely with forks and knives :D

    1. Melissa: ya, it was quite easy to munch on and finish the hot dogs :D heheh, yep, we didn't ask, but I guess they're definitely fans of dogs here, since their walls are full of doggy portraits =)

    2. yup, they own a pound that's 1 acre large. The pics on the wall are their very own dogs.

    1. TNG: ya, they're both OK options for those nights when we need a burger. and it's convenient cos it's like a five-minute drive from home for you maybe! :D was very tempted to order the volcano milo smoothie, but it sounded very filling, heh. and yeah, there's always a reason to return to your neighborhood at least once a month! =)

  10. I like it when restaurants come up with quirky names for their dishes. Makes it rather interesting for the diners to try n figure out what it all means.

  12. Good reminder to me to check out the cocktails at The Pound. Been guilty of having only Guinness with every visit.

Kulcats look arty! Interesting mix in TTDI. One is cat and the other is dog. No fights between them...I hope:P

    1. Missyblurkit: heh, i guess for me, i have to check out the cocktails, since i don't enjoy guinness very much =) ya, kulcats definitely has the feel of being conceptualized by artists :D and ya, i guess it's safe to say that Kulcats and The Pound will both attract very different customers, heheh =)
