Checking out a couple of friendly neighborhood cafes that have opened in recent weeks, starting with Section 17's FoodLover.
Asian favorites from FoodLover's something-for-everyone selection include Malay nasi lemak, Chinese Yung Chow rice & Thai fried tom yam rice, all carb-heavy.
Plenty of plump prawns in the nasi lemak's sambal udang. Worth the RM10.90 cost.
Western staples include spice-sauteed spaghetti with smoked duck breast slices (RM15.90). Fowl fans can also sample aglio olio spaghetti topped with chicken chop.
Cakes are fairly pleasurable & fairly priced here too. Try the banana coffee toffee caramel one ...
... as well as this nutty tiramisu-like creation, both RM5.90 per piece.
Kaffe's cakes are creamy. Choices include the ever-popular Oreo cheesecake ...
... & the now-ubiquitous red velvet cake. Not the best ever, but not bad at all.
Macarons come in fun flavors like yam & lime to complement the regular choc & vanilla ones.
Kaffe takes its beverages seriously, so it's worth sipping the green tea latte ...
... as well as the regular latte, steaming-hot for a rainy night. Kaffe Cafe opens through midnight.
Bonus sweet stop: Driving from Taman Tun to 1 Utama for Wandx Patisserie.
Mini-tarts constitute this mall kiosk's pastry pleasures, with wide varieties for these RM2.90, cream-stuffed, crispy-sheet concoctions.
Our picks include peach, peanut butter & green tea, as well as a savory chicken floss one.

ReplyDeleteThe color of prawn sambal look just like what my mom cooked!
Melissa: interesting tarts by wandx, with lots of different toppings. and all very light and delicate, convenient for snacking :D heheh, yeah, there's a nice homemade feel for the sambal at foodlover =)
Deletewah those nasi lemak prawn do really looks good..
ReplyDeleteI had been eating nasi lemak quite often now..
Simple Person: ooh, i think i only manage to have nasi lemak once every two or three months. ya, the nasi lemak here was OK, could have been a bit more moist and aromatic, but the sambal was very nice :D
Deletewow the green tea latte sure has a very nice bright green, i wonder if my tongue will turn green after that?
ReplyDeleteEiling: heheh, green tea lattes seem to becoming quite popular in kl. in the past two weeks, i've been having them at cafes in bangsar and taman tun =)

DeleteWah the cakes at Foodlover so cheap... hehe, I think it's rare to see cakes priced at that low price nowawadays.
ReplyDeleteBaby Sumo: true, true, most other places might charge at least RM8-RM10 for those slices. nice to see a place that keeps its prices as fair as possible (and the cakes were still totally fresh and enjoyable) :D
DeleteMini tarts are a good idea...we can eat more varieties!
ReplyDeleteThe nasi lemak looks good. Am quite tempted to change my appointment to PJ so I can have it for my dinner.
Missyblurkit: oh yeah, it's easy to wallop four or five of those tarts for a tea time treat, I think :D heheh, it's a rainy evening now in kl. I'm feeling the urge for something hot and piping ... But maybe bak kut teh instead of Nasi lemak :D
