Butter + Beans @ Section 17 & Swich @ Publika

Charm to burn & coffee to brew: Butter + Beans is an excellent entry to Section 17, certain to captivate caffeine-craving customers seeking another suburban hangout.

Croissants, Danish pastries & bread laced with olives & sun-dried tomatoes contribute to the "butter" component of this warm, welcoming outlet ...

... while the "beans" are of a local variety, for coffee freshly roasted & satisfyingly served.

Butter + Beans has ties to Food Foundry nearby; might be OK to bring the latter's mille-crepes here (new flavors include salted caramel & Earl Grey with lavender).

Butter + Beans opens 8am-8pm daily, but seats no more than two dozen, inside & out.

Need more cakes? Take a ten-minute drive to Publika, where Swich Cafe has opened a kiosk as a prelude to a full-fledged outlet in this complex next month.
Main entry on Swich Cafe @ HP Towers Semantan: July 20, 2012.

When we first tasted Swich's cakes six months ago, there was no way to know what to expect. But since then, legions of other food fans have flocked to Swich, forming the consensus that owner & mother-of-two Cheng Cheng makes mouthwatering masterworks, the product of passion.

From the gooiest butterscotch cake fathomable to a cake flooded with sufficient fruits & nuts to tide a small family of squirrels through winter, the selection may seem small at this kiosk, which operates through January 9, but each temptation is worth trying.

A stern warning to chocolate addicts rebuffing rehab: Swich's Swiss Bliss brownie & Valrhona chocolate cake will constitute substance abuse of the highest order. Swich sought to open at Bangsar Shopping Center & Bangsar Village this year, but both malls proved resistant; their loss is Publika's rapturous gain.
