The new kid on the block has things it could teach its elders; barely a week old, The Red Beanbag at Solaris Dutamas ranks as one of the better Aussie-inspired cafes to hit KL.
Breakfast & lunch platters make up The Red Beanbag's compact menu. The Eggs Benedict seem irreproachable _ a flood of flavor, with streaky beef bacon, mushrooms & asparagus.
Baked eggs with sun-dried tomatoes. A molten-hot, mushy marvel; we recommend requesting a side serving of lamb bratwurst for extra meatiness.
"My Nutty Professor," a hybrid of tiramisu & chocolate mousse, stuffed with smashed smithereens of nuts for satisfying nibbling.
We're not caffeine connoisseurs, but the coffee here feels close to perfect, with everything from the taste & texture to temperature being richly enjoyable.
The Red Beanbag is a pork-free eatery, but hog-hunting customers can take a two-minute walk to Publika's EAT Food Village for porcine pleasures.
BKT for brunch: Yeoh's Bah Kut Teh, a recent entry to this food court. We haven't tried the original in Klang, but we have conflicting sentiments about this version. Sure, the bowl overflows with succulent meat, sufficient for two to share _ seemingly a steal for RM13. But the nonexistence of herbal fragrance in the broth makes it far from fulfilling.
Prowling through Publika, we also took a chance on Vineg Plus (or VinegPlus; one or the other), which offers vinegar-based beverages outside Ben's Independent Grocer.
Here's a blend of apple, pineapple & vinegar _ thick like a smoothie, with a sour-sweet flavor that not everyone will savor. Still worth trying; it's supposed to be healthy.
More shots of The Red Beanbag's interior; there's a view of the national palace somewhere.
