Ampang has become a hub for healthy eating, with organic outlets like Earth Food & Haven cropping up this year. The Origin, a modest but admirable cafe, sets itself apart by serving purely vegetarian, mainly Chinese recipes.
Origin's offerings taste surprisingly fantastic for meat-free, guilt-free fare. Intriguing options include a lightly fried, lovably fluffy roll stuffed with yam, turnip & nuts.
Pumpkin-laced tofu with passion fruit sauce. We'd happily munch on these soft, subtly sweet morsels on their own; no need for the spicy-tangy gravy.
More pumpkin, this time coated with oats & curry leaves. Three hearty plates of food were sufficient for a simple lunch for two, but there's still much more on the menu _ everything from seaweed soup to stir-fried spinach.
Vinegar juice & lemon longan honey juice.

Hmm interesting cafe. We have a cafe here called Ministry of Coffee which has my most fave Chocolate cake in the town. Just saying hahah
ReplyDeleteBtw... Vinegar juice? Errr...
Vinegar juice & lemon longan honey juice? Nice :)
ReplyDeleteAny desserts??
Btw, just curious, do you sometimes go out for dinner or anything to a cafe or restaurant with other food bloggers? As an unofficial community. Like a gathering of food bloggers.
ReplyDeleteIf you didn't mention it was vegetarian, I would have thought some of the dishes were deep fried fish cakes or something like tht.
ReplyDeleteRad: i'm not sure whether it's vinegar + water, or whether it's a fruit vinegar beverage (made from fermented apples, etc). there are quite a few outlets in KL now offering vinegar beverages. supposed to be pretty healthy, for boosting circulation, detoxifying, fighting fatigue :D oh, and there are many circles of food bloggers in KL. i've had a few meals with some of them, but i prefer going out with smaller groups =)
ReplyDeleteRebecca: ohhh, i saw a cake or two in their chiller, but i can't recall if they have chinese desserts here =)
ReplyDeleteBaby Sumo: yeah, though i like how this outlet doesn't try to make the tofu taste like meat. it's just tofu, heheh :D
Ahhh apple juice is my fave! After banana and avocado, and mango too. :p
ReplyDeleteSounds like a very good drink to have for improving one's health. Will try to look for them over here.
Ah that's cool. I would like to see some photos of you and the group regardless of the size that goes with you every time in every post, actually. Hehe but I know it's just your type of blogging, and respect it. :)
Is this nearby La Risata?...
ReplyDeleteVinegar juice... The sound of
ReplyDeleteIt scares me a little...
Rad: ahh, try mixing apple, banana, avocado & mango all into one juice! maybe it'd be even better! :D heheh, yeah, this blog for me is a just a simple diary of various places & various food =)
ReplyDeleteUlric: yeah, we actually parked outside la risata. look for the brussels beer cafe nearby. the origin is next door to brussels, just a 30-second walk from la risata :D
Michelle: heheh, yups, it's an acquired taste. not my favorite drink either. wonder if it would taste more mellow with some carrot juice added inside. or maybe with a shot of booze =)
I caaaaaannn....
ReplyDelete*tempted*
I vote a shot of booze :p
ReplyDeleteThanx for d directions :D
i supposed the vinegar would be something like an apple cider?
ReplyDeleteFood looks healthy. Would be a good place to drop by for some healthy and yummy food.
Rad: heheh, i won't be held liable if it turns out to be a major disaster! :D
ReplyDeleteUlric: no worries. you'll find it very easily =)
Missyblurkit: yeah, except that it also has a distinct vinegar flavor, heh =) yeah, the soups, salads & veggies should be healthier than the mostly fried stuff in this post :D
Ok, hope the cake is something special too!
ReplyDeleteRebecca: oh, it looked like a regular chocolate cake. sorry, i guess i should have asked them :D
ReplyDeleteNo alcohol?? No fun! :p
ReplyDeleteJ: heheh, no booze whatsoever here! not even a hint of beer :D
ReplyDeleteWouldn't have guessed that this place was vegetarian! Perfect for my grandma:) Plus, it's nice to see dishes that are different from the typical vegetarian stuff!
ReplyDeleteVien: yeah, I guess sometimes vegetarian restaurants have a bad rep, cos we figure they all serve pretty much the same stuff. This place was a pleasant surprise =)
ReplyDeleteWow, new profile photosssss!
ReplyDeleteVegetarian food? No meat? Wow more surprise! :P
CK: heheh, yeah, the profile pics are fresh from the camera, just taken this weekend :D And vegetarian food good mah. Healthy, heheh =)
ReplyDeleteI think it's going to be a disaster but I might do it just for fun still :D
ReplyDeleteYes, I noticed your new profile photo, too! Nice one, too! :D
Rad: heh, at least it'll be a nutrition-packed beverage. and thanks; a friend helped me to take it, after i said i needed a new profile pic =)
ReplyDeleteOh nice friend! :p hehe
ReplyDeleteRad: dat's what friends are for, as elton john once sang, heheh :D
ReplyDeletewow the healthy food does look enticing. Maybe Ampang will turn into a healthy food hub since so many of these outlets are there.
