Ten: Round Three. Earlier entries: October 10 & October 13.
This time, it's all about fishy fun from start to finish, wading right in with fleshy slices of salmon carpaccio, complemented by creamy avocados & a garlicky sauce.
Not just any fish ball soup: yellow tail dumplings, with tofu & enoki mushrooms. These are coarse & less bouncy than Chinese fish balls, but they have a meatier, more organic flavor.
Boiled tile fish with grated turnip, veggies & bonito sauce. Simple but satisfying, precisely how the most heartwarming Japanese recipes always are.
Hiramasa kingfish, grilled with Saikyo miso for a golden hue & savory sweetness.
Steamed rice soup with slivers of snapper. If we had wintry nights in KL, this would be ideal to warm our bones.
The perfect partner for fish: a French Riesling, Ten's cheapest white wine at RM160. Alas, the reds cost even more.
A more wallet-friendly choice: Sapporo draft beer.
A vast variety of shochu can be found, from sweet potato & rice to black sugar. We opted for wheat & buckwheat.

The fish balls look like beef balls!
ReplyDeleteBaby sumo: yaa, they were kinda interesting. Less processed, less artificial-tasting. Seemed like minced fish meat :D
ReplyDeleteYums! Can't wait for lunch tmw! :)
ReplyDeleteRebecca: hope it'll be a 'heavenly' lunch! And got celebrity guest chef, heheh! :D
ReplyDeleteThe steam rice soup looks really really nice!
ReplyDeleteSalmon n avocados...tat made ur day rite? :P
ReplyDeleteD grilled Hiramasa kingfish looks so enticing :D
A bit too much fish for me, but the salmon carpaccio would be up my alley. :)
ReplyDeletemichelle: oh yeah, it's both healthy AND tasty! :D
ReplyDeleteulric: i can't say no to avocados, anytime! =)
bangsar-babe: heheh, i figure too much fish is better than too much meat though (maybe!) :D
Wow! Ten again?
ReplyDeleteYou really love this place ya! Must go must go! :P
CK: heheh, ya, i think it deserves the attention! but i'm now waiting for them to add more dishes to the menu before i go back :D
ReplyDeleteHehe, before you know it, it would be your tenth trip back to Ten. Then you know what, right? "Ten ten ten ten!" :P
ReplyDelete*runs off laughing like a silly bunny*
Kenny: goofy bunnies that go 'ten ten ten ten' and scamper away ought to be skinned alive (and then preferably boiled in a stew with carrots & potatoes!) :D
ReplyDeletei'm sure that you're eaten almost every dish on the menu, right?
ReplyDeleteEiling: heheh, only 50 percent of the menu, I think. But it's probably the more interesting 50 percent that I've managed to try :D
ReplyDeleteSkinned alive? Boiled in a stew? Gotta catch me first for that to happen! Muahahaha
ReplyDelete*runs off again, quick as a speeding bullet train*
Kenny: remember what happened to the gingerbread man who cried, 'run run run as fast as you can, you can't catch me' ...a cautionary tale, certainly :D
