Aboard The Bergen Railway @ Norway

The seven-hour train trip from Oslo to Bergen is hailed as one of the world's most scenic, & it lives up to that reputation - the view outside the window evolves steadily & engagingly, from the city landscape to a terrain of mountain plateaus, wide-open plains & icy lakes characterised as 'Norway in a nutshell.' The food aboard is pleasant too, with a focus on local produce - a salad of chicken from the Horpestad farm, beans & lentils, & bacalao made with Norwegian fish stock from the Dybvik family.

  1. What a fabulous holiday you are having. It is like seeing heavens from the window of the train.

    1. Twilight Man: seven hours was a long time to be on the train, especially during daytime, but you're right, the view helped the time fly ;)

    2. Oh man, your 7 hours was easy and blissful. My December post shared my trip from Xi'an to Dunhuang by 24 hours slow train ride, filled with Chinese smoke!

  2. What breathtaking scenery along the way. I wonder what they serve on our KTM, took it in 1973, the night train and slept all the way - don't think there was anything to eat then.

    1. Suituapui: 1973 - that's the dark ages of public transport! ;) I'm not sure I've ever taken a real ktm ride along the peninsula before - I've taken night coaches before, but I actually don't find sleeping on train seats to be comfortable, heh ;)

  3. I am not a good traveler as I suffer from motion sickness. But perhaps with scenery as beautiful and this, I would be fine LOL!

  7. I had chills looking at these because I have been on it too. I love the ride on the NSB train and I am missing every moment of it. Rode it to Bergen too. What an enjoyable breathtaking journey and I was awake 90% of the time! :D
