This rustic vineyard restaurant benefits from its incredibly lush locale overlooking the Onetangi Valley, an idyllic setting for a leisurely lunch on New Zealand's Waiheke Island.
The food is memorably wonderful, fuelled by top-flight produce - fried organic egg with cheddar-kale polenta, walnuts, roasted garlic & truffle salt; Wairarapa octopus with free-range pork cheek, black beans, smoked chilli & tomatillo salsa; potato sourdough bread with Matiatia Grove olive oil; spaghetti squash pancake with shiitake, spring onions, kimchi, black garlic & miso mayo; & a cheese platter of Mahoe Farm VO Edam, Kaikoura Hikurangi washed rind & Mt Eliza unpasteurised blue with oat cakes, rye crackers & Te Motu vincotto figs. The flagship estate wine is a Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant blend, hand-harvested & aged for at least five years before release; try the Te Motu 2005 - violets, blackcurrants, plum & pipe tobacco.
