El Sid's Bar @ Damansara & Latin Tropical Yoko's @ Changkat

The proof is in the pisco: Here's intoxicating evidence that South American flavors are becoming the toast of this town. Before we begin: Salud!

First up, parking is certain to seem even scarcer soon at Medan Damansara, as hordes of customers will tango a trail here to El Sid's Cocktail Bar.

Geoff Siddle's new venture, the Latin American cousin of Sid's Pubs, is breezy & easy-going, splashed with riotous colors that make this bar rather ravishing.

The signs are clear: Expect to sip Ketangos, Margaritas, Batidas, Mojitos, Pinascas, Sangrias, Daiquiris, Cuba Libres & Caipirinhas. And snack on South American snacks.

El Sid's Bar formally opens Friday, July 19.
El Sid's Cocktail Bar,
1, Jalan Setiapuspa, Bukit Damansara, Damansara Heights, Kuala Lumpur.
Same row as Sri Ayutthaya, Jake's & Passage To India.

Equally enticing: The long-running Yoko's at Changkat Bukit Bintang has endured a major renovation & overhauled its menu, transforming from a Japanese restaurant into Latin Tropical Yoko's, a Colombian one (!).

Carimanolas, Colombian cassava fritters stuffed with chicken & cheese. Moreish to the max.

What's wrapped in these plantain leaves? Something delicious, we hope.

Might be 'tamales tolimenses,' pork, peas & eggs bundled in cornmeal.

Or could be 'ayacas,' beef-filled corn cakes that taste, well, rather rustic.

Colombian Nectar Licor Anisado, alongside Colombian Flag & Bahama Mama cocktails.
