Chez Leoniel @ Alliance Francaise

Chef Leoniel Dg's eponymous cafe at the Alliance Francaise de Kuala Lumpur language & cultural centre offers a deep dive into a sea of French fare - expect everything from steak tartare to salade lyonnaise, moules marinieres to boeuf bourguignon, hachis parmentier to gratin dauphinois to quiche lorraine,

We tried two sturgeon dishes, one with the fish served as a tartare (RM25) & the other pan-seared & partnered with vegetables, mushrooms & garlic cream sauce (RM45), as well as a ginger-spiced pumpkin soup (RM9) & grilled duck confit with roast potatoes (RM38). Chez Leoniel has clearly put work into creating a tempting menu, though the final results could have been more effective in terms of freshness of produce & choices made in the preparation, balance of flavours & execution of textures. But it's still a pleasant place if you're seeking somewhere to eat away from the malls & commercial enclaves.

  1. Hi there. Love the blog. Can I pick your brain for a while. I have a 10 year anniversary coming and I would really like your opinion for a good place to eat. Could you email me back. Thanks

    1. SSbm: thanks for the kind words. sure - i can't figure out what your email address is from your profile though, so please email me at seanyoong on gmail ;)

  2. I love pumpkin soup but I am not crazy about ginger, not too sure about the combination. Soup looks kind of yellow, different variety of pumpkin?

    1. Suituapui: i like the use of ginger in soups, cos it can add an uplifting zing to the broth ... i think it works OK with pumpkin soup when used with restraint, heh. hmmm, the difference in the colour could be partly also due to the lighting and my camera, i think, but yeah, it was yellowish ;)

  3. We love duck confit & boeuf bourguignon, wish there is a nice french restaurant nearby our area. Is there any?

    1. CK: those are two of my favourite french dishes too ... hmmm, i think the closest for you might be rendez-vous in bangsar :)
