Harrods has opened a street-level, semi-alfresco cafe at KLCC, complementing the first-floor Harrods restaurant that's been popular in this mall for nearly four years.
The cafe has a marginally more casual vibe compared to the restaurant; a bustling deli is the centerpiece here, bristling with bread, pastries & cakes.
Entry on Harrods Restaurant: April 20, 2009.
The cafe menu is extensively different from the restaurant's. Customers can create their own sandwiches with a choice of bread, fillings & dressing. This seafood-stuffed one features smoked salmon & pink prawns with papaya vinaigrette in ciabatta.
Salt beef & roast beef (RM10 per portion of each) with curry mayo & piccalilli in white batard. Assembled to order, so it takes awhile to come.
A showcase of sweets, almost impossible to choose from without agonizing a lot.
Treacle tart, steeply priced at RM12++, but that's the nature of Harrods, where the restaurant upstairs charges RM16++ for a single scoop of ice cream.
Raspberry-jasmine creme brulee, interestingly scented & flavored.
Wine is available, as are coffee & cocktails, so thirst can easily be conquered here.

Hahaha...I dun mind waiting for my own crazily-constructed sandwiches...the glue is of cos the runniest egg...hahaha =)
ReplyDeleteUlric: you're patient, that's a good virtue. and good sandwiches will come to those who wait (though i think egg isn't one of the options for the sandwich stuffings here) :D
DeleteRats! I want my runny egg :(
DeleteUlric: heheh, i empathize =)
DeleteDo they serve breakfast there as well?
ReplyDeleteCK: oops, not sure. i don't know what time they open here, and their menu looks like mostly sandwiches and desserts :D
DeleteSorry for bringing up and old thread. But yes they do serve breakfast. Cheaper on working days.
DeletePricey but bound to attract many as it is, after all, Harrods! Is the food worth to price?
ReplyDeleteYouHadYourLunch: yeah, the harrods brand name does carry that weight. hmmm, i'm not sure i'd return very quickly here though. i'd recommend it for a leisurely meal in one of klcc's nicest-looking cafes, but the prices are relatively steep =)
DeleteI tried once at the KLIA and their breakfast is very nice..
ReplyDeleteof course it is pricey.. :(
Simple Person: ooh, i guess the harrods at klia might cater partly to tourists who can spend a little more. hmmm, and there also a lot of tourists at klcc, heh :D
Deletethis restaurant looks classy for me~ XD
ReplyDeleteMr Lonely: one of the nice cafes in klcc =)
DeleteBeen there once, small place at the back of the shop. Certainly much bigger and nicer, this one.
ReplyDeleteSuituapui: yeah, the restaurant upstairs is nice, but maybe a bit stiff and formal. this cafe on the ground floor is brighter and breezier, heh =)

ReplyDeleteAnand: yep, it's a new branch of harrods =)
DeleteI like the new outdoor bit. Of course it will probably only be us foreigners who are actually crazy enough to sit outside. All the sensible Malaysians tend to stay protected inside in the lovely cool. :-)
ReplyDeleteThe Yum List: you might be right! my friend and i both sat firmly indoors, enjoying the air-conditioned comfort, heh :D
Deletewhen I need to pretend to be rich I'll go there! :P
ReplyDeleteKY: heh, or maybe in a few years, you WILL be rich and won't have to pretend :D
Deletesomehow feel that this new location lacks the scenic view that we get from the 1st floor - its too much boom boom bang bang with the construction site opposite and lots of blue cabs smack outside.
ReplyDeletebut when sitted inside...i have no complains. quite oblivious to the noises and all:D
Missyblurkit: true, there isn't the fountain view here that's available to the restaurant. i didn't quite notice construction noise, but maybe i was there in the evening after work had stopped. i do like how it tries to look like a nice roadside cafe in europe, though it doesn't quite work 100 percent here, heh =)
DeleteIf I am ever there, I might check it out. Would try and take my sis too...since she has been dying to go back to London. This might help..
ReplyDeleteSycookies: that's a cool idea! ya, this might be the cafe for anglophiles :D
DeleteDont think I'll head here anytime soon :P
ReplyDeleteRebecca: heheh, not sure if the desserts here might meet your approval. i think there are both hits & misses :D
Deleteit reminds me of TWG. almost the same concept but somehow I prefer the deco of TWG... more poshy
ReplyDeleteEiling: true, there's quite a similar vibe here at harrods cafe! :D
Deletewas there today and am totally unimpressed with their service. their wait staffs were really rude. they are seriously not living up to harrod's standard and is bringing them down.
ReplyDeleteGOSH Nikita! I was umimpressed too. I expected better service coming from Harrods really. I guess with their wait staff, it's really bringing shame to Harrods. My last experience dining at Harrods (upstairs) is waaaay better.
DeleteI was there with my sister earlier today. My sister and I ordered our food the same time but mine didn't arrive. I checked on it twice with the same waiter but he assured me that it's coming. The last time I asked him, he asked me what I ordered. This is when I realize he only gave the kitchen my order and I got really angry. I waited 40 minutes and still no sign of my order. I had to cancel it because I was running late for my movie. As though they didn't understand that I was running late for my movie they continue to do things their own sweet time without caring much that I was really hungry and I didn't get my food! That took another 10 minutes. The waiter who took my order was not even apologetic about it and even worse the manager Shoba was terribly rude, raising her voice at me. She said it as though it was my fault her waiter didn't take my order. What kind of service is this? Is this how a customer should be treated? DEFINITELY UNACCEPTABLE AND RUINING HARROD'S REPUTATION. Why did Harrods hire incompetent people to run their business? Is there no professional training done prior to the opening? Service is far from the one I went in Knightsbridge.
ReplyDeleteI just don't understand who goes to places like this. It's like the one in KLIA - why? why would you be attracted to eat in a cafe that is the brand of a UK department store? There's no link apart from the brand - and it's not like Harrod's is particularly famous for food, other than the ridiculously priced food court. The place looks like a UK old-people's home not a high class cafe.
ReplyDeleteI send my daughter to work daily and when they opened, they have this attractive signboard placed outside with a promotion on breakfast. I went there one fine day at 10.50am albeit a little late for breakfast but the sign there says till 11.00 am. First the waitress said it's still available and we ordered 3 sets with 2 cup of tea. Then the waitress excused herself saying she needs to check with the kitchen on availability. She came back saying it's not available but....but the breakfast set is on the menu, ala carte section as well. How can it be not available?
ReplyDeleteThey should learn to honour their promotions!
