The Warehouse @ Chinatown

Nestled in a nearly century-old building in the heart of Chinatown, The Warehouse is home to three sections: an art gallery, a steakhouse & an atmospheric cafe.

Here's a glimpse of the ground floor cafe, which offers simple fare like sandwiches & coffee. But be warned that it closes at 6pm.

When night falls, head upstairs to Ril's, the stylish steakhouse that opened this week, serving beefed-up meat & sultry cocktails.

Exotically bizarre: Thai Bloody Mary (with fish sauce!!! combined with vodka, chili, tomato, cucumber & coriander) & Arab Spring (brandy, cardamom, dried apricot, vanilla).

Champagne cocktails, with herbal & floral twists: Rosemary Kiss (aperol, lime, rosemary) & Hibiscus Fizz (roselle syrup, hibiscus flower).

Turkish Delight (vodka, creme de cacao, rose syrup, honey, pistachios) & Sweet & Sour (cachaca, hibiscus jam, apricot brandy, egg white).

Potent alcoholic tea for two: hot apple cider with spiced rum, ginger wine, cinnamon & cloves.

There's also plain ol' coffee at the cafe, whipped up by a Seattle-born barrista who fills her Vibiemme Domobar Super espresso machine with fresh Illy coffee beans.

What about the food? All in good time, since we'll all be reading & hearing plenty about this venue in the months ahead.

  3. ulric: yeah, the cafe stops serving sandwiches & coffee by 6pm, but customers are still free to sit around after that. parking can be tricky, since this is on a one-way road, and you'd have to turn left 50 meters before the warehouse and park at an open-air lot (RM5 per entry after office hours) on the back alley =)
augustdiners: yeah, i've been waiting with bated breath for the restaurant upstairs to open. it was supposed to start operations last week, but that was postponed at the last minute. but now it's finally open, and it's excellent! :D

  6. ulric: yep, if you're hoping to try both the cafe & the steakhouse, then you could arrive here by 5pm, sip coffee at the cafe, and then head upstairs for steaks at dinnertime =)

  14. michelle: heheh, i wish more places would serve alcoholic tea & coffee! then i wouldn't mind upping my caffeine intake :D
joe: heheh, steak entry very soon! hope it'll be worth the short wait! =)
baby sumo: yeah, it's too early to declare this as KL's best steak. for their price category, it's very tasty, but they don't offer the top-range beef so far...
lemongrass: 10-minute walk will probably mean a 20-minute drive, considering the traffic here! and no valet parking. call taxi lah! =)

  15. ulric: hope you enjoy the steak! exactly one more week until the promo comes into effect :D
unkaleong: gosh, you're right, i should have asked! i hope they'd be in the three-figure range at the most, and not four-figure, heh =)
melissa: oh yeah, it gives us the chance to enjoy some art appreciation, alongside food and beverage appreciation! :D
min: yup, i usually steer clear of bloody marys, but this one was delicious! instead of being overpoweringly sour, it had a nice, complex blend of sweet, sour, salty & spicy dimensions! =)
