Freshly refurbished, Chateau Decanter is now one of the Taman Tun neighbourhood's cosiest, most welcoming wine bars, with comfortable couches set amid walls of nostalgia-rich portraits. To celebrate the makeover, customers are invited to relax and relish Chateau DeCanter's Free Flow Wine promotion, every Monday to Thursday, 5pm till 10pm.
The Free Flow Wine promotion (RM80++ per person) promises a choice of four to six different wines each evening - sample as many glasses as you want, or stick to a favourite and down the entire bottle.
When we visited, the Cono Sur Bicicleta was ready and waiting; take a whiff of this dark, fruity Chilean Merlot, and let its heady nuances of blackberries and chocolate entice you for another round.
If you prefer to start with a white, Lindeman's Cawarra Chardonnay proudly hails from the vineyards of southeastern Australia, crisp and refreshing with notes of peach and nectarine.
Chateau DeCanter regularly rotates the promotional selection of wine, but rest assured you'll find some solid pairings for food. The Chilean Narrow Valley Cabernet Sauvignon might be the ideal intense companion for red meat or cheese, while the Argentinian Trapiche Alaris Malbec proves a smooth, balanced coupling with pastas and finger food.
Each individual bottle typically costs around RM150 here, so you're already coming out well ahead with a few glasses for the promotion.
Even if you're visiting Chateau DeCanter on non-promotional nights, there's still plenty of liquid pleasure to pick from, going beyond wine. Ask for the house recommendations; the team here will be happy to help.
The menu has also enjoyed a face-lift, with an extensive selection of soups, bar bites, main courses and dessert. Start with the kitchen's pride of Crispy Pork Belly, slow-cooked and complemented by the chef's signature garlicky sauce (RM 33), and share some Silver Fish, crunchy and coated in tasty salted egg yolk batter (RM 19).
The Crispy Skin Salmon is pan-fried pleasure for a meal on its own, succulent to the bite, served with tarragon sauce, sauteed asparagus and potatoes (RM 48).
Once you're done with dinner, kick back for some tunes; between 8.30 and 11pm, local singers and musicians will perform live here for a soothingly melodious time - sometimes you'll get a solo act, sometimes a duo or more. (Performance photos here courtesy of Chateau DeCanter)
Chateau DeCanter is also capable of hosting private functions, suitable for parties of 30 or more, spanning birthdays, celebrations, corporate events and more. Contact Lucas at 016-974-8922 or Chateau DeCanter at 012-633-6609 for details.
Many thanks to Chateau DeCanter for having us back.
