Hemisphere @ Sultan Ismail, Virgin & Throne @ Taman Tun & The Vault @ Sri Hartamas

On a breezy night, Hemisphere's glittering 37th-floor alfresco drinking area comes alive with customers sipping basic cocktails (Pina Coladas & Tequila Sunrises) & savouring the view of KL's skyline, with the Twin Towers looming a few kilometres away.

Hemisphere
Regalia Residence, Jalan Anjung Putra, Off Jalan Sultan Ismail, Kuala Lumpur. Tel: 03-2742-1098

An armoured knight stands guard in this bar, the most conspicuous sign of what's meant to be a medieval theme that's not quite evident in much other than Virgin & Throne's name & a few flourishes in its decor. Cocktails take a modern bent - the Watermelon Mint Soup (RM118) is made for sharing, filled with vodka-infused watermelon balls in fresh, icy watermelon juice.

Virgin & Throne
26-A, 1st Floor, Jalan Datuk Sulaiman, Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Kuala Lumpur. Mon-Sat, 5pm-1am. Tel: 03-77312838

The Vault is on its way to becoming one of Sri Hartamas' buzziest bars; but while its repertoire sounds promising, spiced up with the use of a few Asian elements like pandan-infused vodka, kaffir lime-infused tequila & cili padi, the couple of cocktails we ordered were one-dimensionally cloying. RM34-RM42 per drink.

The Vault
5, Jalan Sri Hartamas 7, Sri Hartamas, Kuala Lumpur. Daily, 5pm-3am.

  1. The watermelon mint soup is a nice modern take on the vodka-infused watermelon, which has been around for a while. The latter is still nice but I've seen it turn up at house parties which doesn't make it as novel for a night out. I like this version and it looks very refreshing, perfect for the heatwave going on now.

Oh, I flew back to Sibu for Ching Ming and I saw you featured in Going Places, the in-flight magazine for MAS. You were on the front page in a blurb and your article was in there too. Nice work mate. :)
