Anne Elizabeth @ Cheras

This deli-restaurant helmed by husband-&-wife team Jacob & Sandra is worth a visit for carnivores in Cheras. Make your selection from a broad variety of meat & seafood that's on display, then have the kitchen cook a protein-packed meal for you.

Our best bets here are all about pork: The smoked back bacon is fabulous - thickly sliced, irreproachably tender & bombarded with savoury flavour (RM17.90 per glorious piece). The pork belly (RM15.20) is a pleasure too - exactly what we were hoping for when we ordered it. To complete the hearty platter, try a warm bacon salad (RM6.90) on the side to balance out the meat.

There's something for everyone - if you're going vegetarian, Anne Elizabeth serves a cranberry salad that's brimming with many, many more berries than expected (RM6.90) & a creamy-hot roasted tomato soup (RM9) that's clearly not from a can.

No scarcity of sausages, constructed with pork or lamb (a bratwurst costs RM8.50) - juicy enough, but probably not the stars of this show. Other reasonable options for a warm meal include spicy pasta aglio olio loaded with lamb shoulder (RM18.80), an interesting fish gratin heaped in a claypot, crowned with a carb-overload of mashed potatoes (RM24.90), & portobello mushrooms stuffed with bacon & oozing with cheese (RM12.90). Bring your own wine; the corkage charge is RM30 or less.

Anne Elizabeth (trivia: the name refers to two Catholic saints)

  2. I am getting hungry looking at your photos, Sean! As far as canned soup goes, there are a couple of soups that are thicker than the salty, liquidy usual soups like Campbell's. Habitant pea soup is great, and Knorr (the one that is a powder in a package)...both of these soups are thick, tasty and filling. :)

  3. I'm still cracking my head to pinpoint the exact location of this restaurant... Quite familiar with Taman Segar but haven't come here for ages so memories failed me :( maybe look into google map later. Anything porky deserves coming to... Haha

    2. Oh... I'd been to Venezia twice. Someone took over or the owner changed concept😊😇?

    4. Leo: it's kinda near Leisure Mall ... one of the shop-house rows, but far at the other end, maybe a bit too far to walk from Leisure Mall :)

    5. Ulric: ooo, it's a completely new set of owners for this round, i think :)

  4. Does that mean the first plate costs RM17.90+15.20+6.90? They do look glorious. The porky stuff prices seem reasonable but then they don't come with any sides like potatoes, eggs or bread to make a complete dish! ;)

    1. Contact.ewew: your calculation is accurate, heheh :D good point about the sides ... though come to think of it, i kinda prefer it this way, cos very often in a platter, i don't necessarily want bread or some of the sides that come on a platter ;)
