New Menu: Steaks & Lobsters @ Desa Sri Hartamas

Over the past four months, Steaks & Lobsters has fast become Desa Sri Hartamas' go-to place for mega-hearty meals of a bovine & crustacean bent. Maintaining its momentum, S&L will soon introduce new temptations that'll keep the crowds coming.
Earlier introduction to Steaks & Lobsters: Aug. 7, 2015.

The restaurant pours plenty of thought & extra effort into its recipes, coming up with kitchen-made sauces & other twists to steakhouse staples. Starting mid-December, there will be a few new starters: Don't skip the loaded potato skins, stuffed with rib-eye minced chili & dressed with garlic aioli (RM29; so lip-smacking, we couldn't stop eating them), & the chicken tenders with sour cream & tomato concasse (RM18; battered white meat fillets, crunchy on the outside & tender within, served fresh & hot, offering a pleasing balance of flavours).

For steaks, the upcoming entry into S&L's repertoire is Grass-Fed Truffle Fromage Rib-Eye (RM75+ for 300-plus grammes) - it packs an aromatic wallop of flavour, thanks to the topping of melted cheddar & Monterey Jack cheeses & French truffle paste that memorably complements the steak's savoury succulence. The range of steaks is continuously evolving - the Wagyu MB7 Round Sirloin (RM88) was initially a periodic special, but it'll be on the permanent selection following popular demand. Side dishes for the steak & lobster platters remain a bright spot, with highlights like a guacamole-blanketed potato salad that can be repeatedly replenished without additional charges.

Lobsters aren't left out of S&L's latest upgrades: You can soon order your Boston lobsters with a percik-style sauce for a unique Malaysian enhancement with a rich flavour. But if you prefer to enjoy the juicy-sweet flesh unvarnished, S&L has recently switched to a prime breed of wild-caught live lobsters, ensuring its steamed & grilled options can stand claw-to-claw with KL's most satisfying lobsters. Prices start from RM98+ for lobster servings of at least 800 grammes, with sides & sauces.

Save space for churros (RM18) - S&L's upcoming new dessert is worth it, with a crisp quality that we really like, dense but not stodgy, paired with salted caramel & chocolate sauces, executed in a way that would do a Spanish restaurant proud. It's an encouraging finish to a meal that signals how Steaks & Lobsters keeps getting better; thanks to the outlet for having us back.

  4. I spy giant lobster claws - yum! The rest of the food seems to be mostly fried, or accompanied by fried foods. I hope they have other options.

    1. The Yum List: yeah, those claws were as big as we could have desired, heh :) they do have some salads and char-broiled salmon, but i think most of the food here is quite on the high-calorie side, you're right :)

  6. I went here few months ago after all the hype. It's utter disappointment for the price you pay. Lobsters were RM100+ but not as fresh as advertised. Yes you get unlimited sides but doesn't justify the price. Steaks were hefty too at >80+ but again failed to live up to expectations. Just go and try to believe me.

    1. Jonathan: really sorry to hear you were unhappy with your experience at s&l ... they've changed their lobsters recently, and i did enjoy them more the second time compared to the first. i brought my family here and they liked the food, but i do realise there have been other groups like yourself who've not had similarly positive experiences, and am sorry to hear that ...

    2. Hi, I'm Lucas from Steaks & Lobsters. Thanks for your awesome review and support, Sean. Yes, we had some hits & misses in the first couple of months since opening the restaurant due to our team being fresh. We regret that our food quality wasn't consistent back then, but we're much better now. I've contacted Jonathan and made some arrangements with him, when he visits us again. Hopefully, he and his friends will have a better experience this time. Thanks again for everything, Sean! :)

  8. Lobsters....I want! Steaks....I also want! :D Hope their change in lobsters is for the better. By the way, what would you say it's the best way to have the lobsters here....steamed, grilled or percik-style?

  9. Had dinner at Steaks & Losters last Thursday and my husband ended up with food poisoning. He had his steak medium well. Next day he puked twice and that wasn't the worst, had to see the doctor immediately and passed out the next day. DO NOT go to places where food handling is really bad and worst things can happen if the meat is not fresh. PLEASE BAN THIS PLACE!

    1. Hi, i am Nick, one of the guys behind S&L and on behalf of steaks & lobsters, I want to truly apologize for the unfortunate incident. This is the first time we recieved a food poisoning case. Our full team has been informed about the issue. Please give me your details so we are able to get in contact with you to rectify the matter. Once again, we sincerly apologize for the incident.

    2. Well to be fair, food poisoning sometimes is not necessarily from the food we took on last meal... I had a friend who had a severe food poisoning during a trip to Cameron, we thought it's the food we BBQ during our first day dinner, but turns out her entire family has experienced the same with different severity so it's really not necessarily the last meal we took...

  10. I revisited S&L after a not very satisfying first visit few months back. On this visit, I must say that the food quality has improved tremendously. The wagyu steaks were spot on. Huge piece of meat (300g) and cooked perfectly to order. Had the ribeye and sirloin and weren't disappointed. Lobsters were fresh, meaty - basically the only criteria you need for a seafood meal. Appetizers were great too. I'd recommend the protobello fries and hot wings. All in all, was a better experience this round. Hope this continues for S&L.
