Fluffed tries to take customers on an exploration of crowd-pleasing desserts, from a signature strawberry 'cloudcake' (RM11, a moist sponge cake) to crisp waffles with fanciful monikers like Pooh Bear's Favourite, The Monkey King, or Jack & The Beanstalk (RM19; topped with green tea ice cream, adzuki beans, almond pralines, honey & strawberries). The cafe makes much of its fare in its kitchen, including ice cream with flavours such as macadamia crumble, strawberry cheesecake, lavender blueberry & hokey pokey honeycomb (RM7-RM8 each), the last of which is dunked into Fluffed's affogato (RM13). The cafe is now in its soft-launch stage; its founders say their core philosophy is 'simplicity made perfect,' but it could be interesting to watch how Fluffed evolves, with the possibility that it might come up with creations that leave a more pronounced impression.

Bakeology maintains a low profile in Taman SEA, but this friendly cafe, run by sisters Cheryl & Caryn, is well worth a visit. Try one of the distinctive cakes, clearly made with both heart & thought - the Giddy Munky (RM13.50 per slice) turned out to be a banana walnut cake tinged with Bacardi rum, pleasingly mellow in its well-tuned flavours & textures. We were also tempted by Bakeology's twists on conventional cakes - its red velvet is lined with yoghurt, while its cheesecake boasts a speculoos biscuit base. You'll also find other freshly baked treats like lamb pies & croissants, but be sure to pick up a beetroot-thyme loaf - lovely bread, enjoyable entirely on its own. Savoury meals are available too, from rosemary chicken pasta to turkey ham sandwiches.

Desserts are also the name of the game at Sweet Palate, an oasis of calm in Bangsar South - the focus is on cakes, with familiar classics that point to something-for-everyone aspirations: carrot cakes (RM12 per slice, laced with cinnamon, walnuts & pineapples), chocolate caramel cakes (RM12), red velvets (RM12) & blueberry sourcream cheese cakes (RM13) crown the menu. You'll also find butter cakes (RM4 a slice), madeleines (RM3 for two) & eclairs (RM3) to complement caps & flat whites.
