Orizontes @ Mount Lycabettus, Athens, Greece

It's a formidable walk up the steepest streets of Athens, followed by a brief funicular ride, to reach the peak of Mount Lycabettus (reputedly a former refuge of feral wolves), but the reward seems worth it - from 277 metres up, watch as the sun descends over this magnificent ancient city. You might even stumble on a wedding in progress at Lycabettus' small church before checking out Orizontes, the hilltop restaurant here.

Armed with a panoramic view to accompany its arsenal of Greek temptations, Orizontes acquits itself well with kitchen-made 'tzatziki' strained yoghurt sauce, a Cretan salad of 'dakos' barley rusks with crumbled mizithra cheese & chopped tomatoes, 'kritharoto' risotto with seafood & turmeric, plus monkfish marinated with Greece's ubiquitous 'ouzo' anise-flavoured aperitif.
