Sprezza @ Phileo Damansara & Flat White @ SS15 Subang

Phileo Damansara & Subang might not seem like places where the Holy Grail of caffeine could be hidden, but two coffee bars that opened this week show that the Third Wave is ready to Roar in both neighborhoods.

First up, Phileo Damansara's Sprezza, short for 'sprezzatura,' an Italian word that might characterize how coffee here is crafted. Look it up.

No Blurred Lines prove visible for former Artisan barista Azlan Ariff Azman's latte art; the Clarity of this Rosetta might reflect the sharpness of its maker's sum-total skills.

Caffe mocha (RM11). Terrific temperatures & comforting creaminess for these beverages, with a beautiful house blend of Guatemalan, Brazilian, Ethiopian & Sumatran beans that's fit for Royals.

Sandwiches & more will be available soon, but for now, dessert lovers will Get Lucky with this Mars bar cheesecake (RM9) ...

... & a Gula Melaka pandan cake that's surprisingly light but somehow still luscious.

Next up, Cruise over to Subang's Flat White, another warmly amiable cafe, this one opened by four longtime friends who confess to be "coffee junkies."

Flat White uses beans roasted by Singapore's Coffee Culture, with a mildly bitter blend of more than 70 percent Costa Rican combined with Ethiopian & Colombian.

Interesting work here; this Nutella cappuccino (!) makes for a tasty Wake-Me-Up call. Wouldn't mind two Cups of this on drowsy days.

We Can't Stop ordering affogatos wherever we go.  Lap this up until it's Gone, Gone, Gone.

Savory food will also be available at Flat White eventually, but for now, its cakes that include a peanut butter & chocolate one deserve a fair amount of Applause.

Will Sprezza & Flat White receive the Same Love that has favored the Klang Valley's most popular java joints? Tricky to tell, but here's hoping both stay Safe & Sound for an exceptionally long time to come. See You Again!

    1. 女飞侠: heheh, ya, i think since Flat White Cafe is just a one-minute walk from Inti college in Subang, it'll be good for students who need kopi banyak-banyak even after midnight to stay awake and finish their assignments! :D

  4. the use of Nutella in the nutella cappucino strongly resembles the works in Whisk Espresso Bar (One Utama n Subang Empire).. @@

    1. Whoisnell: heh, there are incestuous links among these cafes & their people, it seems. For example, the cakes at Flat White currently come from the same person who supplies cakes to EspressoLab at the Gardens, allegedly =)

    2. oh gees... no wonder they have the same feel.. i mean like one can kinda feel that it's eerily alike and wonder how could that be.. thanks for clarifying..
have a good weekend ahead :)

    3. Whoisnell: yeah, i don't know whether there's actually a formal link to Whisk, but one of Flat White's owners also runs (or ran) a business at empire shopping gallery, and his partner made a brief mention of Whisk during a chat with me. so it was interesting that you mentioned Whisk too =) hope you have a good weekend too, with lots of god food =)

    4. Hi Sean,

Matt here, met you when we were trying burgers at KGB with Rebecca. The supplier used to supply to EspressoLab at eCurve, not Gardens. Just thought I'd solve the mystery :p

    5. Matt: oh, thanks for that. One of the Flat White owners said EspressoLab Gardens, but I guess it's easy to get mixed up with so many EspressoLab branches around =)

  10. how can you not invite me to your coffee spree!! hmph!! me no friend you.
But both outlets do look very promising, it doesnt look like these establishments will create a great bang like the burger joint in subang but nevertheless i believe they will be popular among their neighbourhood, a place to chill, hang out and have a good cuppa! :D

    1. AugustDiners: heheh, i think you were trapped at work or in the office while i was on leave and cafe-hopping that day :D ya, i think both these outlets will fill a need in their neighborhoods. sprezza should be popular enough with people working at phileo damansara, while flat white could get enough of a college student customer base =)

  17. Hi, thanks for recommendation. I have just went there just now and had a "coffee session" with my friend just now.

  18. I went there because of many good review and recommendations. but it didnt meet my expectation, I think the food is not so nice, and it is kind of overprice, but the coffee is OK and worth to drink it. but one thing make me not to go there again, the services is kind of bad, especial the waitress.
