Bone Marrow Burger @ Ril's Bangsar

Returning to Ril's at Bangsar for its recently launched carb-laden, creativity-loaded lunch menu.
Earlier entries on Ril's in Bangsar: Dec. 31 & Jan. 27.

Now available every afternoon: the behemoth of a Burger Royale (RM56 before taxes), boasting a house-made beef patty with (deep breath!) bone marrow, foie gras, cheddar cheese, caramelized onions & roasted garlic puree.

The pinkish patty would be awesome even alone, but the full package offers big bites of brilliance, not for the fainthearted or the weak-kneed.

Pour plenty of gravy, laced with morsels of marrow, & enjoy with chunky chips & purple slaw.

Other (slightly) less devilish dishes, for lighter lunches, include toasts with truffle-oil-tinged scrambled eggs, cream cheese, rocket & parmesan shavings (RM26) ...

... as well as more foie gras, this time spread in the style of a pate/mousse/terrine with camembert cheese & red onion jam (RM32).

Bready bunch: Every meal here includes rolls, Ril's addictive onion buns with garlic butter.

Desserts feature no scarcity of starch either: Ril's brunch/lunch menu has highlights like chocolate French toast with Nutella, bananas & cream (RM16) ...

... & (peanut butter alert!) deep-fried peanut butter & jelly sandwich with sticky toffee sauce & cinnamon whipped cream (RM16).

Advance orders might ensure that customers can still sample the lunch menu in the evening, when the bar springs to life & serves some of Bangsar's best cocktails, including this one with Campari-baked cotton candy, gin & vermouth.

See http://www.keek.com/eatdrinkkl/keeks/gtsEbab for how this Cotton Candy Negroni is served.

Only Jerks Smoke: Smoky whisky, lime juice, passion fruit, apple brandy, sugar, lemon zest & more whisky, sprayed on the rim.

Champagne Fizz: Champagne, cognac, angostura bitters & a brown sugar cube.

    1. Ulric: yeah, I couldn't resist when the menu said it had both bone marrow and foie gras in one burger. I'd love to see bone marrow as an ingredient more often (Dish at Jln tun razak used to have it on its old menu a few years ago) =) oh, heh, I'm not really serious about Keek, but it's a fun way to illustrate some things that would be better captured on video instead of just photos, like the preparation of the candy floss cocktail here :D

  2. The lunch menu sounds good. Well I went twice for dinner at rils in KL and it was so disappointing tht I haven't blogged abt it. Perhaps the lunch might be better. Tried 2 different steaks on 2 different occasion and both were barely decent. The scallops were salty beyond reasonable levels. The Mac & cheese was ok. The chic dish was salty too

    1. Tng: oooh, they need to look into kitchen consistency issues then, I guess. I remember those dishes from their tun h.s lee outlet, and had no problems with them, and I've generally been ok with Ril's steaks, but ya, I've heard mixed reactions from other customers, some of whom truly enjoyed the food here and others who didn't =)

    1. Suituapui: ooh, bone marrow tastes pretty much like fat. wobbly and luscious, but not much flavor on its own. it combines well with foie gras :D

    1. Missyblurkit: ooo, yeah, it's not often we see 'bone marrow' as a burger ingredient! :D though i must admit the peanut butter sandwich could have been better for me if there were more peanut butter and less bread :D

  11. Bone marrow! I haven't thought about it for years. My grandma used to always say that sucking the bone marrow out of the bone was the best part.
