Tray Cafe @ Plaza Damas

Wasting no time, Tray Cafe has taken over the Plaza Damas venue vacated by Haute Food Co, the venerable hangout that closed before October's final week.

Early birds will get the burger: twelve-thirty's the last call for Tray's egg-eclipsed multitude of morning selections, such as sandwiches spruced up with sunny-side-ups, beef bacon, onions, tomatoes & cheese. Way better than worms.

Lunch specials comprise the likes of this smoked salmon quiche, a thick, tasty treat that demonstrates a determined drive by Dinesh, Allison & Victor, Tray's triumvirate of owners, to maintain a people-pleasing menu of comfort food.

Many Haute staff members remain on Tray's payroll, bringing familiarity to the cafe's setting & fare like fluffy scones that once ranked among Haute's hotcakes.

Haute fans, rest assured that rich desserts are no less a priority at Tray, exemplified by this freshly baked banana cake with salted caramel ...

... as well as a carrot cake loaded with enough fruits & nuts to fill a small squirrel's winter stash.

Tray's opening-weekend capacity crowd secured a surprise: complimentary coffee in every fashion the heart desires _ lattes, cappuccinos, macchiatos & more.

Also worthwhile: honey-tinged tea & tangy homemade lemonades.

Service is well-meaning, but customer patience is imperative. Still, Tray stands a sturdy chance of success, shrewdly capitalizing on Haute's legacy to build its own brand.

  1. Am glad Tray took over Haute's space. Its quite a nice and quaint spot to chill during the weekends. Food looks good enough. Though my most important question is whether Tray is furkid friendly like Haute was.

  7. haha and I haven't even been to Haute's. Plaza Damas is a place that I don't even visit once a year and I guess I have been missing some of the new outlets to dine over there.
