Big Ray's Grill

This meat specialist in Sri Petaling's Endah Promenade should please the wallet but perhaps not the palate. Can't always have our roast chicken and eat it.

Carnivores will have a field day here; alas, the sirloin steak is tough and thin. Still, the grain-filled side dishes of buttered and tomato rice are generously portioned.

Overly charred chicken. Juicy and flavorful inside, but its looks are an undeniable turnoff. Raise the red flag for carcinogen concerns.

This burger is impressively tall, but at a time when other outlets put major effort into their burgers, it's not enough to slap together generic patties, buns, cheddar, veggies and ketchup.

Fish. Is it dory? Maybe. Meaty, but not enjoyable enough to salvage this meal.

Big Ray's serves no pork, but Endah Promenade also hosts an Overtime, where customers can snack on mini pork knuckles. Beware: there's more gelatinous fat than meat on these bones.

Overtime's beer cocktails include Go Naked, featuring beer with lemon juice, gin and grenadine. Customers can also just have plain ol', good ol' Starker Dunkel beer.

Lychee Slush and Carribean Night (beer with Bailey's Irish Cream).

Wine is also available at Overtime. Decent ones at surprisingly decent prices.

  1. Looks like it's a no go for this joint. But I do agree that the chicken is way too overcharred. And I'd probably remove all the buns and just eat the burger patty. Hehe.

    1. Chong: yeah, I wonder if this might have just been an 'off-night' for this outlet, but I can't quite give it the benefit of the doubt. Too bad, especially since it's just a five-min walk from my home :D

  5. Beer cocktails .. ewww. My grandma used to love a shandy - beer and lemonade. Can't say I inherited the taste for it. :-)

    1. Germans love a good Radler - also beer and lemonade but it's good Bavarian beer so it's very, very decent. :D

    1. Ulric: yeah, the staff at big ray's grill say they were gonna be revamping the menu soon, but not sure if that'll lead to an improvement in the food =) ooh, i've driven past uncle r, but haven't been there. i guess the knowledge that they probably don't serve wine and i'll have to bring my own is a deterrent =)

  7. Any eatery that can't churn out a decent steak is probably a red flag for everything else on the menu :)

    1. Simple person: thanks. Ya, I was feeling a bit suspicious that the chicken skin was missing. They really should have just cooked another piece for us again, I guess =) I'm not a beer lover. It makes me feel too full :D
