Shuang Xi @ Tun H.S. Lee Road

Chinatown's latest hidden cocktail hangout is a true chamber of secrets, crammed with curious corners. A Sphynx cat observes its surroundings from a windowsill, near a small garden growing out of a bathtub. A poster of ├Źn The Mood For Love takes up prime wall space; the nostalgic surreality is buoyed by strains of Faye Wong's Ni Kuai Le floating from the speakers.

The chilled-out, welcoming vibe at Shuang Xi - which means Double Happiness - complements easy-going original cocktails with names like Sweet Dream, Linger Ginger  & Familiar Stranger, blending the likes of vodka with banana milk & salted caramel, or plum wine with ginger. Reservations via Facebook are essential, as Shuang Xi caters to a limited number of customers per night; proceeds from beverage sales are channeled to a community of local artists. Yep, this is no ordinary bar.

  1. Very colorful and interesting decor! Oh, they even have that dummy for anatomy study which reminded me of the science lab during my school days :D

  2. What's that? A cat? Does not look like one. Is it alive? At a place like this, I would expect everyone to be drinking Tsingtao. :D

  5. I don't like hairless cats! ;) The aesthetics blend well with the watering holes in this area. The entrance looks like you're entering a sleazy brothel...haha! :D

  6. I love this place. It looks like the old charms of Shanghai cafes with narrow stairs and suddenly Leung Chiu Wai would walk in to look for Maggie Cheung or me. Ha Ha ha! Bookmarked too!
