Fuel Shack Burgers @ KLCC & TBS

A burgeoning burger chain, Fuel Shack recently opened two outlets nearly simultaneously, at KLCC's second-floor food court & the Terminal Bersepadu Selatan (TBS) transportation hub, with plans for another branch soon at Low Yat Plaza.

The burger-loving menu offers a meat for every sort of carnivore, including lamb, a 150-gram patty packaged with cheese, lettuce & tomato for RM14. These patties are heavy & hearty, perfect for big eaters, while the accompaniments feel fairly fresh.

Chicken comes with pineapple (RM14). However, Fuel Shack's patties are the extremely processed kind, with a texture that makes this chicken patty, for example, a close cousin to McD's nuggets.

Minced beef with blue cheese (RM16). Still, burger obsessives should probably try Fuel Shack instead of dismissing it without first-hand experience; the KLCC kiosk is securing long lines at lunchtime, so we might see many more shacks in the months ahead.

Double beef with egg & cheese (RM17), monstrously massive. Too much, much too much.

Dory fillet burger (RM13), a decent-enough substitute for a Filet-O-Fish. Still waiting for the mother of all fish burgers to someday surface in the Klang Valley.

Hot dogs are available too; this Mexican-themed one (RM9) comes with a beef bacon-wrapped sausage, raw onions & tangy tomato salsa.

Fuel Shack's TBS branch serves fried chicken & pizzas too, though neither looks like a must. Service at both KLCC & TBS is cordial but sometimes sluggish.

Plus point: Fuel Shack seems the most assuredly halal of the Klang Valley's rash of burger cafes; the next time someone voices dietary concerns, send him/her here, for better or worse.

  1. I was just at the KLCC one this past week and I had the bacon-wrapped hot dog. Was wondering why lunch time line was so long - it's probably due to the novelty factor :P If I'm not wrong there's one at the KL Convention Centre foodcourt too.

    1. Lifeasacynic: heh, I guess it's a shiny new alternative to all the regular food court fare at klcc. And yeah, the convention center has this on the ground floor too, though I'm not sure if that one attracts lengthy queues =)

  2. Saw the queue today during lunch time at KLCC. Didn't get to try though. But I guess it is a good alternative to McDonald's.

    1. Chong: ya, that queue is a turnoff, but I guess since the outlet is open throughout mall hours, the best thing would be to head here at 11am or 3pm. Though once, when I tried the klcc outlet at 5pm, they said they had run out of beef patties for the day :D

    1. Ulric: heh, at klcc's food court, the office workers nearby only had a choice of mcdonald's, so fuel shack's a welcome alternative. will definitely end any hunger pangs :D

  11. I would say the reason that queue is long is simply because of untrained employee, or they don't even bother to run the business. Went to the one at KLCC twice. First time I wanted to add fries and drink with rm2, the cashier lady told me they run out of fries. Ok, so I spent rm2.6 to buy a bottled drink. There is no queue so everybody just stands in front of counter waiting. After that, I found my number was skipped so I asked about my food. I just realised that they lost my ticket, and apparently I was not the only because there were other people asking too. Worst still, while I was waiting, I saw the fries coming out of kitchen. Given such bad experience, today I still decided to give it another chance. So I went there around 4.30pm, and when I just about to order, the cashier lady told me: "we are holding off 1 hour and not accepting any customers". After that she continued to talk on her phone and the other two staffs just standing there doing nothing. I must say, Fuel Shack is so generous to pay them to reject customer orders during office hour and this is the first shop I ever had such experiences as I almost eat at KLCC everyday. Seriously, I don't know about others but I will never ever give it a 3rd chance.

    1. Kl seal: yikes, thanks for sharing your experience. You have a good point, the burgers did take longer than expected to prepare at both the klcc and tbs outlets. I have mixed feelings about that. On one hand, it's roughly the same time that most burger cafes take to assemble their burgers, since they seem to be prepared fresh to order. But on the other hand, it's too long to wait at a food court where customers need their food fast. Hopefully they'll take this into account.

  18. Guys the food is amazing with that branch in klcc but the problem is the employees are too much dirty and not tidy at all the recycle bin beside them and they put plastics on the ground and every ware

  20. I recently visited KL late Nov 2013.
Fuel Shack is the best burger I ever had, anywhere IN THE WORLD.
Clean tasting - doesn't have a greasy oily aftertaste. Same with their french fries. The branch near Aquarium is best - never packed but still busy enough to make the freshest burgers.
There is an Indian/Nepalese? girl who works there with most beautiful green eyes like Nat Geo magazine covergirl - go there just for her :-)
Management: I suggest you replace the common bubble teas with milk thickshakes - they go better with burgers.
Fuel Shack is a reason I will return to KL for sure. Keep up the good work guys!
