Born in Osaka in 2014, Gram Cafe and Pancakes has become Japan's top envoy of souffle pancakes, spreading the popularity of these tall, thick and wobbly pleasures across the world, with outposts in the United States, Canada, Australia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand.

Now, it's Malaysia's turn to try Gram - the Japanese chain's first Klang Valley location has launched in Kota Damansara, remaining true to the Gram experience. Chefs here have been trained and tested by the brand's purveyors to serve up the same scrumptious souffle pancakes as seen from San Francisco to Sydney.

Our pancakes do jiggle jiggle: Gram's pancakes are served in limited batches throughout three sessions everyday, starting at 11am, 3pm and 6pm. Each portion is perfectly prepared to order, taking thirty minutes for each plate. All orders are first come, first served; no bookings needed.

Gram's Signature Souffle Pancakes (RM32) are fantastically fluffy, a stack of soft pancakes that trembles at the slightest push of the plate, warmly whipped with a precise proportion of special-grade Japanese flour, frothy egg whites and sugar.

The result is melt-in-the-mouth bliss, with a delicate, delightful airiness. Topped with a slightly sweetened butter dome, alongside Japanese nama fresh cream and maple syrup, this brings us irresistible happiness.

Gram Cafe and Pancakes is currently serving a soft-launch menu in Kota Damansara.

Highlights include non-souffle pancakes, also relying on Japanese-imported flour for a lovable lightness. Enjoy them savoury or sweet, such as for the Mixed Fruit Pancake (RM35), generously showered with blueberries, kiwi, orange and strawberries for vibrant colours, complete with cream and chocolate sauce for the neighbourhood's most pleasurable pancakes.

The Chilli Bean Pancakes (RM40) make for a meal on their own, hearty with a chunky chicken sausage, roasted potatoes, salad, torched cheddar cheese and a Japanese-inflected chili bean sauce that's spiked with cayenne pepper for a spark of spice.

For French toast fans, check out the Chocolate Banana French Toast (RM30), gently crisp with a simple, satisfying crust, constructed with fresh eggs, milk and a little vanilla, dusted with icing sugar, partnered with sliced banana, vanilla ice cream, nama cream and chocolate sauce.

Pair your Gram pancakes with hot or cold beverages - the Cappuccino (RM12) is bold and nutty, harnessing Vittoria Coffee's 100% Arabica beans, while the Mango Frappe (RM16) is fabulously fruity, layered with juicy morsels of mango (other frappes come in flavours such as strawberry, mocha or matcha).
