Big Chomp Burger @ SS15 Subang

Burger haters, avert your eyes: Another teen-targeting joint has invaded burger-besieged Subang, bringing more meaty mischief to this thriving neighborhood.

Big Chomp Burger (no relation to Big Hug Burger nearby) opened this week on one of SS15's busiest streets; what sets this place apart (marginally, at least) is its use of stuffed omelets to top the patties.

For example, this Eddgra (RM15 nett) comes not only with cheese & caramelized onions but also a slice of Spanish omelet that's packed with potatoes.

Flossy Chick (RM13), featuring grilled chicken breast & omelet filled with chicken floss.

Fatty Shroom (RM15): Deep-fried portobello mushroom, button mushrooms & parmesan omelet. All in all, these signature burgers are worth trying, though some of the components might not complement each other as harmoniously as hoped for. Also, the flavors feel a bit muted & the texture cries out for creamier ingredients.

Not into omelets? No worries, order something else here, like the Chomp B+ (RM16), which comes with beef bacon (& theoretically, hash brown & cream cheese). Big Chomp's beef patties are satisfyingly big & chunky, but a bit more dense than juicy.

Our favorite's the Flaming O (RM14), pretty tasty with battered chicken, salami, pepperoni & pimento peppers. Could be even better with thigh meat instead of breast.

Plenty of chili in this burger for a pleasant zing. Here's wishing Big Chomp all the best; there are some nice ideas here, & we trust they'll be fine-tuned in the months ahead.

Big Chomp's burgers might take 30 minutes to make after orders are placed, so hop next door while waiting; Big Chomp is right beside Cham Bagel, run by a Gambian who spent many years baking bagels in New York.

Warmed up on order, this poppy-seed bagel with cream cheese boasts a real baked-fresh feel. Other bagel varieties here include honey wheat, cinnamon, garlic & oatmeal, all of which can be stuffed with the likes of peanut butter, scrambled eggs & chicken salad.

Big Chomp Burger & Cham Bagels,
39 & 41, Jalan SS15/8A, Subang Jaya.
Big Chomp opens everyday, 11am-3pm, 5pm-11pm.

  2. Something new and different from the rest. And I do love bagels..I'm loving the new set of eateries in ss15. So many new restaurants yet so few parking bays.

    1. Sycookies: yeah, it'd a nice carb-attack here. have a bagel at Cham, followed immediately by a burger at Big Chomp :D true, parking's such a mess here. there are several open-air car parks in front of this row, but they're quite packed on weekdays. i managed to find a spot in the parking lot before 11am, but it was full by noon =)

    2. Unfortunately, Sycookies, that's the downside of SS15. I'd say that MPSJ didn't look into the possibility (back then) that SJ would grow into the area that it is now.

    3. Waverly: wonder if there's any possible solution to the problem...

  6. So far I only tried one burger place.... lol
Omelet + chicken floss reminds me of Taiwan DanBing (蛋餅); one of my favourite breakfast there, hehehehe.

    1. CK: ya, I hope the next few burger outlets that open will work to be adventurous and original :D heheh, omelet and chicken floss is quite an interesting combination for me. I wonder if omelet and peanut butter will also combine well together :D

    3. CK: haha, actually I don't think it will work. Maybe need to combine with other ingredients. Omelet + peanut butter + foie gras! :D

  9. Way too many burger joints now that I don't know which to start first. I guess I'd go for the bagel first! :D

    1. Chong: that could be a good choice! U're right, there are so many burger specialists around now, but not many bagel specialists, like Cham Bagels. Let's hope that changes sometime soon =)

    1. KY: ooo, thanks for the reminder about the Avenue K one. Yeah, it's too bad that Cham Bagel is all the way in Subang, on a street where parking is horrendous during business hours :D

    1. Melissa: heheh, hopefully there won't be any more SS15 burger joints after this. There's definitely enough in that neighborhood, with Crayon Burger, Burgertory, Big Hug Burger and now, Big Chomp Burger. :D ya, the logo for Big Chomp is super cute, like a Dreamworks animated movie =) thanks for the idea about a top 10 list. Maybe at the end of the year :D

  13. I passed by here once while they were putting the last tweaks to their renovation without even knowing that it's another burger outlet.

I may be a Subangite who doesn't mind a occasional burger from time to time, but I find that there are way too many burger outlets in SS15 (alone) now.

The college students there will definitely be spoiled for choices. xD

    1. Waverly: yeah, there are four hipster burger outlets in ss15 now (and technically five if you include burger kaw kaw), which might seem like too much. i hope they all manage to survive! and yeah, hopefully the college students will continue to enjoy the burgers :D

    1. Ulric: ya, the omelet idea is interesting and commendable, but I guess they need to work on the overall flavor of the burger and also its appearance, u're right. I hope u enjoy them, but I'm not sure u will. I'd probably grade the burgers here a B-minus for now, but I think there's potential for future improvements =)

  15. It doesnt look like a warrants a visit for now.. esp when u said the flavours doesnt work as harmoniously. Kinda like just throw in whatever they can think of kinda thing huh?
However, I might jz go, to stock up on bagels, and to grab 2 burgers, cos I love eggs and stuffed omelets in burgers is "something new". :)

    1. TNG: i think the combinations didn't gel very well, so the recipes do need some tweaking. the veggies below the patty were something slightly different compared to lettuce, but i think i prefer lettuce :D true, if they could make the omelets a bit creamier and more flavorsome, that could help! =)
