Quartet KL, NU Sentral

For nearly four years now, Quartet has reigned as NU Sentral's reliable bet for grab-and-go coffee and meals. Whether they're shopping in this mall, shuffling off to work near Brickfields or shuttling toward their next train in KL Sentral, customers keep returning to this concourse-level cafe where the friendly team delivers a dedicated effort to remember the names of regulars and their favourite orders. If you stop by frequently, rest assured the baristas will recall precisely how you prefer your coffee.

As a homegrown brand staffed by Malaysians, Quartet promises locally roasted coffee prepared with South African beans, a special house blend that's subtly smoother and more mellow than the typical cuppa, with soft chocolate notes evident in our flat white (RM11). It's the kind of coffee that almost anyone can appreciate, an enjoyable shift from Quartet's previous use of Indonesian beans with a relatively darker earthiness.

Perfect for patrons who need a fast caffeine fix before work, Quartet opens bright and early at 8am on weekdays, so they can get their daily joe without any wait whatsoever. Freshly brewed bottled coffee, in lovely, lively flavours like the nutty macadamia, goes for RM12.

Beyond coffee, other beverages are also crafted with care. Quartet's chocolate-based concoctions recently received a revamp, now tinged with French-imported Teisseire Irish cream syrup for extra-rich, velvety creaminess in the mocha frappe (RM15.50) and chocolate cream drink (RM14.50), revivingly cool treats for cacao enthusiasts.

If you're craving an even more buoyant beverage, check out Quartet's sodas for fizzy, fruity flair. A strawberry-raspberry sparkle, complete with a tangy lemon wedge, will bring back the breeze to even the hottest scorcher of an afternoon (RM12.50).

Food is fuss-free and fulfilling at Quartet: Sandwiches are particularly popular - the pulled beef sandwich packs a powerfully meaty, savoury succulence in every bite, balanced by the gentle crispness of the bread (RM16.50), while the smoked salmon and cream cheese sandwich successfully brings a classic bagel recipe into a vibrant sandwich (RM14.90).

The sandwiches are prepared to order within minutes, ideal for anyone in a hurry. A compact, crowd-pleasing selection of cakes and pastries is also available.

Just in time for the Lunar New Year, and in celebration of the cafe's customers, Quartet will soon be handing out complimentary angpao-style money packets on a minimum purchase of RM20, starting 1 January 2020.

By ordering, for example, a couple of beverages or a sandwich and a coffee, you'll receive five beautiful money packets, designed by a local artist in the brand's signature terracotta orange colour. The limited-edition envelopes can be used throughout the year, for Chinese New Year, Aidilfitri, Christmas or other occasions, emblazoned elegantly with Quartet's logo in gold foil.

Plus, Quartet is a participating venue in Eat Drink KL's coffee pass subscription, so you can enjoy espresso-based coffee with milk under our Prime Milk package at a discounted rate here.

Many thanks to Quartet for having us here.
