Pies & salads, sandwiches & crepes, oh my! The 1 Mont Kiara mall is fast becoming a delectable destination; here's our foray into four new eateries situated side-by-side here (outside Village Grocer), starting with the theatre-themed Mrs Lovett's Pies.
Mrs Lovett's launched with plenty of panache this month, with shopper-stopping live performances of West End standards 'On The Street Where You Live' & 'Memory.' This is a cafe that's brimming with positive vibes, run by bubbly restaurateurs who're keen to make their customers happy (no Demon Barbers here, mercifully!).
Unlike the murderous widow in 'Sweeney Todd,' this Mrs Lovett doesn't dabble in suspicious pastries. Rest assured, the chicken pesto pie - filled with tender, flavoursome meat in thick, buttery crust, heaped with mashed potatoes & warm gravy (RM15.90 for this with a soft drink) - is on-key comfort food that's easily lovable. We were here a bit too early on opening day though, & the kitchen wasn't ready to serve its signature chunky beef pie topped with a fried egg & crispy beef bacon; other temptations include savoury Cajun-spiced prawn pies & ratatouille pies & sweet peach clafoutis pies & apple tarts.
Mr Lovett's neighbours are well worth visiting too; check out Easy Green, a salad bar where eating healthy proves delicious.
Love Easy Green's signature salad, encouragingly crisp & fresh, with well-balanced flavours & textures, topped with juicy grilled chicken & egg, garnished with cheese, nuts & apple cider vinaigrette (RM15; add RM3 for a hearty scoop of quinoa).
Easy Green offers more than edible greens - potted plants & herb seeds for home gardening are available too.
A few metres from Easy Green, shift from salads to sandwiches at Brooklyn Deli for submarine-style, meat-heavy heros.
Aussie roast beef & braised beef brisket are the highlights here, sliced into generous portions & neatly placed in baguettes, priced fairly at RM14 each for the portions above.
Our preference is for the brisket, served warm & somewhat more succulent. Convenient for a nourishing, on-the-move lunch.
Last but surely not least, wrap up your exploration of the mall's LG level on a sweet note at the cutely named Caterpillar & Bee.
Caterpillar's crepes are very tasty - try a fluffy-soft, Japanese-inspired one wrapped around whipped cream, vanilla cake, strawberries, Nutella & a choice of New Zealand Kapiti ice cream (our pick: the mild but aromatic lemongrass-ginger). Or have a root beer float made with American sodas.
